Who am I??

This is my 7th year at Carroll Elementary.

I just finished my Masters in School Counseling from DBU.

I love teaching third grade!!!

1. Students take a spelling inventory 3 times a year.2. The teacher uses the inventory results to

determine a child’s spelling stage.3. Once a week, students are given a list of words to

sort and study based upon their spelling stage. 4. Students in 1st-4th grades take a spelling test once a

week.

Grading Procedures

Report cards will go home on the Friday FOLLOWING the last day of the six weeks

Progress reports will only go home to students who are making a 75% or below in the middle of the 6 weeks

Daily work can be corrected for a 70% Tests will not be corrected for a 70%

Attendance

Children are tardy if they are not in the classroom by 8:00 am…after that they are given a tardy slip.

Absences will only be excused if we receive a note from you. If we do not receive a note, the absence will remain unexcused.

School-wide Procedures

For your child’s safety, please check in at the office at all times.

The teacher must have a note from the office or be called by the office for early release from school or any transportation changes.

Important notes/graded papers will be sent home each Wednesday in the Wednesday folder. Please EMPTY it and return it the next day.

We will not check the folders for notes, all correspondence should be placed in the everyday take home folder!

Tutoring

Tutoring: for students that need extra small group instruction.

Reading Club: Tuesdays until 3:30 Math Club: Thursdays until 3:30

TAKS TEST

TAKS is the “Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills” Test. It is given in Reading and Math at the third grade level in the Spring.

Six Day rotation: this should be recorded weekly in their planner’s so you know when they need to have tennis shoes

Snack: healthy snacks please, water bottles can be brought to STAY in cubby area

Birthdays: birthday celebrations can be outside at playground picnic tables following lunch. Notes for parties can be passed out in the classroom only if each student is invited.

3rd Grade Behavior Plan

After the allotted amount of chances per six weeks, students will be given circles for inappropriate behaviors.

Consequences– One circle: 3 minutes off recess– Two circles: 5 minutes off recess (Parents will be notified.)– Three circles: 7 minutes off recess (Parents will be notified.)– Students who receive 7 or more circles in one six weeks will not be

allowed to attend the 3rd Grade Freaky Friday. Rewards

– Students who receive 6 or less circles will get to attend the 3rd Grade Freaky Friday. Freaky Friday will be celebrated the last Friday of every six weeks. Freaky Friday will begin at 2:25 and end at dismissal. Each Freaky Friday theme will be a surprise to the students.

– Students who go above and beyond expectations will be given tickets. On the last Friday of every six weeks, students will be given the opportunity to bid for fun inexpensive items with the tickets earned.
