Curriculum

What is Intensive Reading?• It is a class designed to maximize the

effectiveness of a school’s reading curriculum.

• It provides opportunity for students to read fluently and become proficient readers!

• Incorporate learning stations including: 100 book challenge, small group instruction

and i-Ready• Our GOAL is to develop lifelong readers!!!

Role of the Teacher• Teacher identifies which level each student starts

with using the IRLA. (Yellow, Green, Blue, Red, white…)

• Teaches reading strategies for indicating level• Sets individual learning goals!• Connects common core standards with books

students are reading to make connections to the curriculum

• Sign Reading Log for every 15 minutes read which is equivalent to 1 step (in school reading)!

• Goal: Students should earn 1 step every day in school and 1 step at home! (Total of 30 minutes daily)
