WhatstageareweatinthecurriculumreformprocessatCCYD?

The Year 7 Skills/Challengecurriculum is designed toengage pupils in a range oflearning experiences which notonly facilitate the development ofhigh standards of literacy, numeracy and digitalcompetence but also encourageresilience, risk taking and awillingness to learn. Throughpupil voice surveys our pupilsare openly telling us that theyreally enjoy the themedSkills/Challenge lessons andfeel that they allow them todeepen their thinking andexplore wider issues. Theybenefit from making connectionsacross subjects where theactivities and tasks link together. The quality of the outcomes hasbeen very good and ESTYNreported the curriculum provisionin year 7 as “innovative” in oursummer 2017 inspection. Weare also working with CreativeLead Schools through the ArtsCouncil of Wales on one of ourthemes this term - ‘Mission toMars the Rise of the Robots!’where we have linked with oneof our feeder Primary schools. The pupils are currently workingon writing a script for a film andthey will develop this into thefinal production where they willbe part of the film and setcreation.
