HEREWhat to expect with Exchange 2013?

• Exchange 2013 is almost 4 years old

• Limited new revolutionary features

• Depends on back portability from Exchange Online which is based on Exchange 2016

• Probably no support for Windows Server 2016

HEREWhat NOT to expect with Exchange 2016?

• Features that require cloud computing to be (cost) effective

• Highly integration with other services

• Features that look like they are integrated in Exchange (Admin Center) but are actually O365

Portal functionality

• Reporting

• Auto-Expanding Archives?

HEREWWMD?

• It’s clear that the cloud is the focus for Exchange.

• Exchange Online is the basis for Exchange on-premises, but with disabled components.

• As long as on-premises Exchange generates enough revenue it is reasonable to expect it will

have an on-premises version.

• But with what caveats? The cloud is the focus, feature first. When will it become no longer

attractive to “fork”?

What Will Microsoft Do?

HEREWWMD?

• Will there be another major release; Exchange 2019, 2022 etc.?

• Next version (if there is one) will probably be updated more like Windows 10.

• More in tune with how Exchange Online already is being developed.

• Actually, Exchange Server 2016 already is being updated like this.

HEREWWMD?

• When will we know?

• Difficult to say, everything has changed so we can’t use behavior from the past.

• But up until now there has been a major build every three years.

• Maybe we know more at GWAVACon 2017?
