In creating its new line of signature bathroom amenities, The Peninsula Hotels aspired to do more than simply provide its guests with top-quality bath products. The company aimed to encourage a delightful and deeply distinctive sensory immersion in each of its hotel locations. To achieve this, the company sought out the most accomplished ar tisanal per fumers living in each of its proper ty’s home cities – creative ar tists whose knowledge of the region, as well as fragrance exper tise, gave them the special ability to craf t custom scents truly embodying the essence of their locales. By infusing the bathroom amenities (shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, body milk and soap) with these bespoke scents, The Peninsula Hotels offers its guests the chance to experience, and appreciate, their par ticular travel destinations in a new way.

TOP NOTES Bergamot , Green Tea

    MIDDLE NOTES Jasmine

    BASE NOTES Agarwood, Amber, Musk

    Jasmine, Agarwood, Amber

This fragrance’s delicate f loral note of jasmine is enhanced by the potent essence of agarwood – a native Hong Kong wood used to make the world’s most prized incense. It is fur ther nuanced by the warm, musky essences of amber; and the green, citrusy extracts of green tea and bergamot. The resulting scent is captivating and full-bodied, yet fresh.

The aromatic components of the fragrance all pay tribute to the par ticular culture and history of Hong Kong. The city’s name, a translation of the Cantonese phrase “fragrant harbour,” refers to its long

legacy as a trading hub for incense such as agarwood, the King of Incense. Jasmine, the King of Flower, is to symbolise the hotel’s Asian elegance. While the oriental note of amber resonates with the hotel’s heritage as the oldest hotel in Hong Kong.

“In creating this exclusive scent, I have strived to honour the heritage and timeless glamour of both The Peninsula Hong Kong and its home city,” said Angel Cheung, the hotel’s Fragrance Curator. “I hope hotel guests will f ind the fragrance captivating and unforgettable.”

  • FRAGRANCE CURATOR

From the f irst time I visited The Peninsula Chicago, it was clear to me that

the hotel embraced a particular, essential philosophy: Every aspect of the

environment there is considered with great care. My practice as a perfumer

is guided by the same ethos; I share the commitment to crafting a fully

immersive experience. By creating a bespoke scent for the hotel, I hope to

help enhance the experience for The Peninsula guests.

Lifelong Chicagoan Russell Weiss is an ar tist who worked in an array of other media – including design and sound – before turning his creative attention to fragrance. His aff inity for the natural world, along with his recognition of scents’ uniquely transportive and evocative properties, led him to the

deep study of and experimentation with botanical ingredients. These endeavours culminated in the launch of his own fragrance brand, Deep Field Aromatics, in 2019, where his line of artisanal small-batch natural perfumes aims to connect the user, through scent, with elemental aspects of nature.
