    DATES

In parentheses, following the artists, ‘r’ means ‘recorded’ (under studio conditions) ‘pp’ means ‘public performance’ (with audience) ‘bp’ means ‘broadcast performance’ (without audience) ‘f’ means ‘filmed’ (in the section on videos). There are many instances where the correct nomenclature has had to be guessed, and may be wrong; however the year which follows will give readers an idea of the likely quality of sound and whether, for example, it is mono or stereo, from 78s or tape. Refer to the review itself for more details. Concerning the years themselves, by way of example: ‘r1965-7’ means ‘recorded between 1965 and 1967’, but exact year not known (to the compiler) ‘r1965/7’ means ‘recorded in 1965 and 1967’ (but not 1966). Reviews of CDs and DVDs covered in John T. Hughes’s Voice Box articles are shown in dark red. This is to distinguish them from the others which have full review titles. As a rule, the so-called ‘bonus tracks’ have not been indexed. Reviews of CDs in Norbert Hornig’s Continental Reports, when they are or have been generally available, and sufficient details are to hand, are shown in green. This is to distinguish them from normal and Voice Box reviews.
