The city of Maribor won the presti-gious European Capital of Culture titlein 2008 with an ambitious regionalproposal that mobilised 5 partnercities in Slovenia (Murska Sobota,Ptuj, Slovenj Gradec, Novo mesto and

Velenje). Some of the programme will

be co-organised with the Portuguesetown of Guimares, another EuropeanCapital of Culture in 2012.
