Communication is the process of Exchanging, thought, message and creating meaning.
Language is the symbol system. It includes the rules regarding the combination of sounds into meaning units words, words unites in to sentence, along with the rules for using the language.
Language and Discourse Language & Discourse is kind of method to study “cultural studies”
Raymond williams has given an influential definition of cultural studies.

Our description of our experience comes to compose a network of relationships, and all our communication systems, including the arts, are literally parts of our social organization… since our way of seeing is literally our way of living, the process of communication is in fact the process of community: the offering, reception and comparison of new meaning, leading to the tensions and achievements of growth and change.
Studying society is about culture, not only about economics or politics.
Combination of meanings and values create ‘culture’ or ‘community’.‘ Communication ‘creates ‘community’.
A society’s meaning reflect its economic and political and study meaning is to study a culture.

The meaning of the particular word is never fixed.
The meaning are arrived at through the process of negotiation and exchange.
Meanings are the process of language.
Not only words or print creates the process of language but speech, painting and photography also creates process of language.
The term cultural studies is preferred to speak about the ‘meaning’ is ‘representation’.
Representation is the process of the process of signifying , and includes the word sign and its concept of meaning.
