Socotra is the largest, 3500 sq. km.

Cultural Heritage in Yemen• Yemen has a tremendous CH

spread all over the country.• There are tens of thousands of

historical sites and monuments.• The cradle of civilization and

one of the oldest human settlements.

• The origin of Arabs and the Arabia Felix.

• The land of queen Saba.• A country of a unique cultural

landscape &environmental sites.

The Old City of Sanaa• More than 3000 years old with

outstanding architecture.• The summer Capital of Queen

Saba and the historical & political Capital of Yemen.

• 1984, launching of the National & International campaign for safeguarding of the city.

• 1984-1986, establishment of technical unit for the preservation of the Historic cities of Sana’a and Shibam.

• 1990, Reunification of Yemen, establishment of GOPHCY.

Shibam & Wadi Hadramout• The first sky scraper in the

world, dated back to the 2nd century B.C, famous as Manhattan of Arabia.

• Unique mud Architecture in the heart of Wadi Hadramout.

• In 1984 nominated on the List of World Heritage.

Historic City of Zabid• Famous as the city of science

& scientists in the Islamic history.

• The first Islamic capital of Yemen from the 7th century AD.

• It has a unique brick architecture in the Arabia.

• In 1993, nominated on the List of World Heritage.

• In 2000, it has been listed as a World Heritage in Danger.
