This course offers a general survey of linguistic, social, and culturalaspects of the modern Arab world. The topics covered in class includethe Arabic language, family, cuisine, the Arab experience in the US,social change, and Arab art and music. The course material exploresthese topics through lectures and films in addition to discussions basedupon the assigned readings and lectures.
Grades are based on class participation and weekly short essays. There isno final exam. This course is taught in English and has no prerequisites.
