Do you have an interest art and design or the performing arts and want to spend time developing your skills with other people your age?
Looking for something fun to do over the summer and want to make friends?
Are you looking for a summer course before progressing onto a full-time Creative Arts programme in September?
At Cambridge School of Visual & Performing Arts we offer a range of fun and interactive summer courses ranging from 1 to 3 weeks, or if you want to come for longer, combine a number of subject areas together and spend the summer with us!

NB: the 1wk subjects, course content is generally the same each week. Teachers will do their best to vary the content if you decide you want to study that subject for more than a week.

LEARN FROM ART AND DESIGN PROFESSIONALS Our lecturers are all working artists and bring valuable industry experience to
the programme.
DEVELOP YOUR SKILLS Our specialist lecturers and tutors will teach you new methods and practices to
improve your work and develop your skills base.
BUILD YOUR PORTFOLIO Learn how to construct your portfolio, what to include and what to leave out
and how to show your work at its best.
BROADEN YOUR ART & DESIGN UNDERSTANDING Workshops will give you practical experience of a wide range of new
techniques, skills and disciplines.

1. You will have gained all the skills you need to create a winning portfolio.

4. You will have gained the portfolio experience required to guarantee entry to our 2-year University of the Arts London Awarding Body Extended Diploma in Art & Design or 1-year
UAL Awarding Body Foundation Diploma at CSVPA should you choose to do so.

WHO IS IT FOR?
• Students aged 16 yrs+ who wish to progress to a top UK Art & Design School but have limited
experience and need training to develop their skills and portfolio in order to qualify for entry at
degree level.
• Completion of this programme also guarantees progression onto our UAL Awarding Body
Foundation Diploma or Extended Diploma should you choose to do so.
ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
• 3 week practical and social programme
• Two dates are available:
• Sunday 17th July 2016 to Saturday 6th August 2016
• Sunday 7th August 2016 to Saturday 27th August 2016*
*for those wishing to progress onto our programmes in September 2016

REQUIREMENTS
• Minimum English standard:
Equivalent to IELTS 4.5+/ intermediate
• A small portfolio is preferable

Through a combination of studio work and excursions, this new 2 week fashion course will introduce you to both the design and promotion side of
the industry, within a fun and creative environment.

the college.
BROADEN YOUR SKILLS IN THE FASHION WORLD Through a series of fun and practical workshops you will experience a range of new techniques aimed at building a basis of creative skills
necessary for further educational courses in Fashion.
EXPERIENCE DESIGN & FASHION IN THE UK Broaden your horizons through excursions to places such as the Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) or experience High Street to designer fashions in Westfield Shopping Centre, the largest urban shopping centre in Europe.

FASHION SUMMER COURSE
1. You will have gained the knowledge and understanding of the processes involved in garment design and making from our highly experienced staff.
2. You will have been introduced to design briefs that challenge your understanding and knowledge of contemporary fashion.
3. With the help of our photography and fashion promotion team you will have learnt the techniques involved in studio photography from lighting to styling.
4. You will have experienced the fast paced process of putting together a fashion show guided by the same team that work on our annual Foundation fashion shows.

This new and exciting course will give you real insight into many aspects of cinematography and the world of film. Whilst being fun and informative
you will leave with a real sense of achievement as the two weeks culminates in the screening of your films and an award ceremony.

EXPLORE THE UK FILM & TELEVISION INDUSTRY Field trips will form a fundamental part of the course and you will get to explore UK attractions such as Warner Bros. Studio Tour: Harry Potter Experience, BBC Broadcasting House in London and local film previews.

FILM MAKING SUMMER COURSE
1. You will have explored a range of practical and theoretical themes connected to the film, television and animation industries.

4. You will have had the chance to present your films to staff and fellow students in a night of premiers, complete with popcorn and red carpets!

If you are interested in acting or musical theatre, at CSVPA we offer a great 2 weeks summer course, taught by our drama team who are all professional
artists and practitioners in their specialist field. Over the course of the programme we will introduce you to a range of drama techniques in a fun and safe environment which will also help to improve your confidence, self-esteem
and communication skills.

MUSICAL THEATRE
This popular, fun and challenging course is led by
theatre professionals, all of whom have musical
theatre credits in London and/or New York.
Students can expect 35-40 hours of rigorous and
intensive classes per week in singing, dance and
acting, geared towards a cabaret style performance
at the end of the second week.

ACTING
In the first week, professional actors will lead you
through drama exercises designed to help develop
creativity, spontaneity, freedom and authenticity in
performance. In the second week, the ensemble
work together to rehearse a short production,
performed for an invited audience.
Over the course of the summer we offer a range of weekly art and design subjects that will give you a broad introduction to the subject area, whilst
introducing you to a range of materials and techniques. You can join us over the summer and book yourself onto one week or select a range of subjects
and come for longer.
ART & DESIGN WEEKLYSUMMER SCHOOL
PHOTOGRAPHY
You will use Cambridge as your inspiration to create an image portfolio.
You will learn how to use different cameras and settings for the best effect.
During the digital photography component you will learn to manipulate and
print digital images on a computer before printing electronically.
During the film photography component you will learn all about taking and
developing your own photographs from initial concept to printed image,
including wet processes to develop film in black & white in the darkroom. If
you have your own digital SLR or traditional film SLR camera, please bring
it with you.

OPTIONS AVAILABLE:
JEWELLERY
You will explore the purpose, meaning and function of jewellery and learn
how to design and make your own wearable piece of body adornment.
You will complete a series of technical workshops in a variety of materials
for example metal, glass, ceramic, stone and paper.
Towards the end of the week you will complete your own personalised
jewellery project learning how to research, design and make your own
work. You will also learn how to present your work for your portfolio
using a photographic studio and Photoshop techniques.
DATES: there is 1 start date available over the summer.

PAINTING & DRAWING
Using wide range of mark making techniques in different materials you
will explore contemporary painting and drawing using Cambridge as
your inspiration and being guided by your expert tutor. You will visit a
local gallery and build your skills to include a wide range of contextual
perspective and create a strong body of visually interesting works.

GRAPHICS & ILLUSTRATION
Using both traditional and digital techniques you will explore
contemporary communication design and narrative Illustration; by
experimenting with a wide range of skills you will produce work that
demonstrates aspects of both Graphical and Illustrative theory and
studio based processes. You will leave the course with digitally printed
example of your work.
DATES: there is 1 start date available over the summer.

INTERIOR DESIGN
Over the course of the week you will learn core skills and techniques such
as measurement, drawing, model making and working with light, colour,
atmosphere and special effects. Through a set project you will learn
how to identify appropriate interior design styles and understand the
developmental design process and space planning. Once you have finalised
your developmental process you will learn to produce an accurate and
detailed floor plan. You will then make a visual presentation of your
proposal through rendered sketches or coloured drawings using a variety
of media, before constructing a scale model of the space. We will provide
you with a range of different materials to construct your model and
through your own experimentation you can explore how to use these
materials in interesting and imaginative ways during the making process.
