C/S @ de Young MuseumA major consideration of the de Young project was that theexpansion joint covers must be ‘virtually invisible’ within themuseum’s weathered copper skin. C/S’ XLS cover system isseamlessly incorporated in the copper panels within the structured frame. The 24" XLS covers are designed to releasefrom the wall to provide full seismic movement.

C/S @ Orange County Performing Arts CenterIn the interior of the magnificent Segerstrom Concert Hall,Architects: Pelli Clark Pelli specified C/S 12" LAF Seismic WallCovers. Virtually imperceptible the LAF wall covers are lightweight, match the concert hall’s wall finish without visual interruption and provide full movement of the joint without damage to surrounding wall surfaces.

Throughout San Francisco InternationalAirport’s base isolated main terminal, massive C/S wall floor and ceiling coversprovide four way movement up to 60"while being virtually invisible. The SSRStone Paver floor joints are 200' long andprovide 36" of movement.

A seismic upgrade was required for thislandmark building. To work in conjunctionwith the base isolators, Jacobsen-Huntspecified C/S Gyrometric cabs (ModelMACC) and SSRW Seismic moat coversthat provide egress during seismic activity.

At this new Armed Services RehabilitationCenter in Houston, TX, C/S supplied unob-trusive SM-2 Wall Covers to match blendsurrounding wall surfaces and to providemulti-directional thermal movement in orderto keep the facility walls from cracking.

movement problems for 40 years.
To provide movement and securitybetween the Newseum and the adjacentCanadian Embassy, Polshek Partnershipspecified SC-1200 Exterior Covers andSRJ-1200 Roof Covers that tie both buildings together. The covers with factory mitered transitions are attached tothe building’s delicate marble surface.

Selection Chart
The size of joint and movement dynamics dictate whether you
require a standard or seismic expansion joint cover system. Before
making a selection, there are other decisions you must make. The
selection of the floor cover is often the most critical step in the
specification process since the performance of the floor cover has the
greatest impact on the occupants of the building. The presence of rolling
loads and the need for hygiene are major considerations in cover
selection, while aesthetics in seismic covers is also a significant issue.

Specialty covers, such as roof covers
and vehicular joint systems, are
available for most joint sizes and
movement dynamics.
Having selected the floor cover, identifying a matching wall cover is a relatively simple task.
When it comes to seismic covers, however, there are options driven by both functionality and
aesthetics. Choose from covers that become detached from the wall to minimize damage or
ones that are self-closing to minimize post-event maintenance. Many of our wall covers are
designed to accept a range of surface materials to maximize concealment of the cover.
