is quite a huge portion but I did a selective study of CCRT, some culture related

current affairs, PIB features on culture, etc.

Nitin Singhania AIR -51 class notes; Byju class notes; Art and Culture New NCERT

(for class 11th); Wikipedia for all the form of art I found interesting –

dances/pottery/sculpture/literature

I used GK today notes along with ancient history prepared through NCERT books.

For Buddhism/Jainism/Sufi/ Sikhism and other religious ideologies, one can also

take help of IGNOU. I also took help of Google images to understand Paintings,

Architecture, sculptures etc.

Nitin Singhania Notes

Culture syllabus is unlimited. no matter how much you prepare, it’ll be

insufficient. but at the same time it’d be unwise to leave this topic entirely.

Ignore: queens, kings, battles etc.. prepare Architecture, religion, literature. Old

NCERT focus on the bold words, google them. As and where possible find google

images, that’ll help you memorize better. especially in Architecture. At max just

need 20-30 keywords. Then add grammar so you’ll reach the 100 words limit.

Modern India NCERT; Bipan Chandra-‘India’s Struggle for independence’; This

book is very important to gain a proper perspective and hence I recommend it.

Page 9: CSE-2015 Strategy

Many of my friends read ‘Spectrum-Modern India’ but I found it somewhat boring.

So, stopped reading it. I would suggest reading original books rather than

compiled guide like stuff.

Spectrum’s brief history of Modern India

I covered NCERTs, Bipin chandra’s both books  a)India’s struggle for

must do analysis as what can be asked in say modern history such as  a)

Nehruvian period b) Indira Gandhi era c) India’s relation with  USA& Soviet Union,

d) Opposition parties etc and prepared notes on important events.

Online sources (there are websites which have summary of EI based on famous

book of Daniel Goleman)

Moral thinkers of India and world

Chronicle…. I prepared Buddha, Vivekananda, Tagore, Gandhi, Ambedkar, Plato,

Aristotle, Kant, Roseau,

I did 4-5 thinkers such as Buddha, Vivekananda, Gandhi, Nehru etc.

I did Confucius, Gandhi, Kautilya, and Buddha. While reading Freedom Struggle I

made a mental note of incidents where our leaders faced moral dilemmas and

noticed the choices they made. I tried to quote these examples in my answers.

Further Subba Rao has cited many thinkers while providing practical answers to

case studies; I went through these as well.

I focused on the qualities of these thinkers rather than learning about each of

them. Sociology class also helped to prepare quite a few thinkers. Chronicle had

provided a handout which was essentially a summary of IGNOU notes of the same

topic. I read those a couple of times.

Covered from chronicle magazine. They produced 4 issues on ethics papers; I

found them more useful, appropriate than any other coaching institute notes. I

covered close to 20 thinkers. They are covered very well in these magazine

issues.

I focused more on Indian thinkers.. Sriram notes were good.

Moral Lexicon by Chronicle.

Thinkers on Ethics IGNOU material. Mainly I prepared – Gandhi, Vivekananda,

Buddha, Arvind Ghosh, Bhagvat Geeta, Lokmanya Tilak among Indians and Kant,

Mill, Aristotle, John Rawls, Bentham among western thinkers

Generated a standard template. You can also generate your own template which

can be tweaked and be fitted in almost every case study. Points of my template:

1. Short term solution vs long term solution

2. Use of words such as transparency, accountability, legality, probity, Integrity

depending upon the case

3. Trust, honest and confidence building exercises- write those activities which

generate these qualities

4. Personal v/s professional dilemma(Mostly found in many case studies)

5. People empowerment/interests are supreme.

6. Formal, professional conduct according to standard procedure, protocols.

7. Taking actions considering department, company’s vision and conduct rules

8. Reward, sanctions, regulation and monitoring actions (almost it happens in

every case study)
