If you’ve been to our nation’s capital, you know that it’s often easier (and quicker!) to walk from office to office rather than navigate city traffic. As I walked the bustling sidewalks and legislative hallways of D.C., I was reminded of our spiritual development theme for this year. In this new academic year we are focusing on 1 John 2:6: “Whoever abides in God ought to walk in the same manner in which He walked.” The second part of our theme verse—“walk in the same manner”—is impossible if students are not first abiding in Jesus Christ. They must know the person of Jesus before they can walk as He walks. At our schools, the Bible is integrated into the classroom every day: from verse study and memorization, to weekly chapels for all students, to corporate and private prayer times, to mentoring relationships with mature believers, to behavioral expectations and discipline practices. Once a student is abiding in Jesus, they are prepared to walk as Jesus walked. When they understand the character of God and are studying His Word, they are able to walk in His ways. We are always pointing our students to a deeper understanding of and steadfast commitment to God’s Word as well as knowledge and discernment of current culture. We are teaching our students to be in the world but not of the world. The ultimate outcome of students walking with Jesus—as learned in their homes, churches, and in our schools—should be an understanding of their times through the lens of God’s Word and the wisdom and skill to act on it. Throughout the year we will focus on various qualities of our walk with Jesus. Students will hear messages about walking in love, grace, knowledge, humility, and kindness, for example. Please join me in encouraging our children to “walk in the same manner” as Jesus. You might consider using similar language at home as you talk through situations. Ask your kids about their personal “walk” with Jesus and how what they’re learning in the classroom is shaping their worldview. Ask them how their “walk” is shaping them into the person God designed them to be. And, encourage them to always walk in a manner “worthy of their calling (Ephesians 4:1).” We are grateful for your partnership! I recently joined

colleagues from other Christian

schools for a day of meetings

with senators,

representatives, and

Department of Education

officials in

Washington, D.C. If you’ve been to our nation’s capital,

you know that it’s often easier (and quicker!) to walk from office to office rather than

navigate city traffic. As I walked the bustling

sidewalks and legislative hallways of D.C., I was reminded of our spiritual development

theme for this year.

In this new academic year we are focusing

on 1 John 2:6: “Whoever abides in God

ought to walk in the same manner in which He walked.” The second part of our theme

verse—“walk in the same manner”—is impossible if students are not first abiding in

Jesus Christ. They must know the person of

Jesus before they can walk as He walks. At our schools, the Bible is integrated into the

classroom every day: from verse study and memorization, to weekly chapels for all

students, to corporate and private prayer

times, to mentoring relationships with mature believers, to behavioral expectations

and discipline practices.

Once a student is abiding in Jesus, they are

prepared to walk as Jesus walked. When

they understand the character of God and are studying His Word, they are able to walk

in His ways. We are always pointing our students to a deeper understanding of and

steadfast commitment to God’s Word as well

as knowledge and discernment of current

culture. We are teaching our students to be

in the world but not of the world.

The ultimate outcome of students walking with Jesus—as learned in their homes,

churches, and in our schools—should be an understanding of their times through the

lens of God’s Word and the wisdom and skill

to act on it. Throughout the year we will focus on various qualities of our walk with

Jesus. Students will hear messages about walking in love, grace, knowledge, humility,

and kindness, for example.

to “walk in the same manner” as Jesus. You

might consider using similar language at home as you talk through situations. Ask

your kids about their personal “walk” with Jesus and how what they’re learning in the

Angela Campbell, Ph.D., was elected President of the CSAGH Board in July, beginning a new chapter with an organization she has served since

her children enrolled at Harrisburg Christian School 11 years ago.

Dr. Angela Campbell is a professor and counselor at Harrisburg Area

Community College (HACC) and has three daughters who graduated from HCS—Macaela, Raquel, and Brianna. Reflecting on their education,

Angela is most grateful for the family-like atmosphere at the school and appreciates the many different opportunities her daughters had there.

She is thankful for the way HCS then - and CSAGH schools now - equip

students to express and defend their faith.

Dr. Campbell has been at HACC since 2001, serving in various teaching and counseling roles and leadership positions. She has her Ph.D. in

Behavioral Psychology from Western Michigan University where she was

assistant director of the MLK Program. Prior to her family's move to Harrisburg, Angela worked at Baker College, St. Philip's College and Palo

Alto College. Balancing career along with her cherished role of wife and mother, Angela is a published author and podcast host, offering hope and

encouragement for common life challenges in relationships, health and

business.

Stepping into the role of President after years of serving on the CSAGH Board, Dr. Campbell is prioritizing prayer. “I believe that CSAGH is on the

heart of God, she says, and “prayer is the strongest weapon we have to

advance the kingdom.”

If you would like to introduce your family to Dr. Campbell, feel free to send her a message at [email protected].

Running to Advance Christian Education

On October 11, students at Harrisburg Christian and West Shore

Christian Academy participated in R.A.C.E., our renamed Race for

Education. The renaming of this event reflects its purpose- to Run

to Advance Christian Education. Students solicited donations

from family, friends, and businesses and then ran as many laps as

they could, all for the goal of raising funds to support academic

programs, financial aid, and so many other elements of their

Christian education.

Thank you to everyone who identified potential donors for their

students and for all who volunteered their time to prepare

R.A.C.E. packets, recruit sponsors, and orchestrate the actual day.

It was a great day for Christian education in central PA!
