Issues in Version 11 – Summary of Symptoms and Fixes A few update issues affect the reports. Benefits: Adding speed and more normalized and secure data structure. Work to Do: Updates to your reports might be needed.

New Engine a. Affects subreport parameter handshaking with main report design

Symptom: Error 562 Status: Fix outlined in this document

b. Improves overall speed of reporting

More secure table structure c. New table in ADT format, old table in DBF. d. Affects data selection e. Requires more explicit handling of empty fields within the selection

Symptom: Empty report or too little data gathered Status: Fix is outlined in this document

New fields and new field names in tables f. Affects report only if that field is in use in report.

Symptom: Error – report will not run, Error 723 or others Status: Fix is outlined in this document

g. Field might need remapping Example of remapping field: Patient.MI to Patient.MIDDLE Status: Fix is outlined in the document.

Formula in Group Name doesn’t display the intended output when empty

h. Only applies to a Group that has a formula assigned to the Group Name in the Options tab in the Group Expert

i. Group Name formula character display Symptom: Empty group header = wingdings instead coded string assigned for empty Status: Fix is outlined in this document

You’ll FIX the reports as described below:

A. Connect to ADS and Verify Database Running verify database procedure is easy and explained on the next page. However, if you have difficulty connecting to Advantage database server and your product’s data dictionary, follow the suggestions on this page.

Make Sure ADS.INI in Windows is Set to Version 11 Product Folder Crystal Reports must be set to work against a Version 11 backend data dictionary before you open the report you are going to change. That is, the ADS.ini file in your Windows folder must match the ADS.ini from a Version 11 product folder data dictionary, or must point to that dictionary. If you question whether you’ve done this, go look at the ADS.ini file in Windows to be sure.

ADS.INI in Version 11 product folder ADS.INI in Windows folder: Match? YES

[Settings] ADS_SERVER_TYPE=3 MTIER_LOCAL_CONNECTIONS=1 [Databases] CBSFILES=C:\EyeMD\DICTIONARY.ADD;D CBSTOOLS=.;A [Crystal] LockingMode=1

[Settings] ADS_SERVER_TYPE=3 MTIER_LOCAL_CONNECTIONS=1 [Databases] CBSFILES=C:\EyeMD\DICTIONARY.ADD;D CBSTOOLS=.;A [Crystal] LockingMode=1

Use Our HELP Files for More Configuration Information if Needed If you are still unable to connect with Advantage (you don’t see that option under New Connections in Crystal Reports) they you will need to reconfigure Crystal Reports. We have instructions in our HELP files. Go to your product’s version 11 HELP files and then to this topic: Contents > Main Menu: Report > Designing Custom Reports > Configure Your System for Crystal Reports This explains the configuration process fully including necessary dll’s (application extensions) and other details.

Run the Verify Database Procedure Once you have connected to the report inside Crystal Reports, select Database > Verify Database

Message such as “LEDGER has changed” will pop up. Click OKAY. If the same change message appears again, click OKAY again.

Questions and Answers, Update Database procedure: Do you have to do the Verify Database procedure for each subreport?

NO. This will run in the main report. What if you get unusual messages or field Mapping interface comes up from Crystal during the Verify Database procedure? Go to ‘Additional Topics.’

If you cannot resolve, refer to KAH. Make sure you update the list properly – See section ‘Required Entry in Report List.’

B. Turn ON Secondary Null Handling On the FILE menu in Crystal Reports, choose Report Options.

>>>>> In the Report Options, CHECK “Convert OTHER Null Values to Default” (see above) Click OK to confirm change. NOTE: You must then SAVE the report to SAVE this change.

Questions and Answers, NULL handling procedure: Do you have to do the Report Option > Convert Other NULL selection for each subreport?

YES. Every Single One. How do I see how many subreports are in the report to be sure I change all of them? Use the Report > Performance Information listing to see all the names. See ‘Additional Topics’ under How to See a List of Subreports

C. FIXING Parameters to DEFAULTS NOTE: THIS SECTION APPLIES ONLY TO MAIN REPORT DESIGN AREA or SUBREPORTS IF THE PARAMETERS AREN’T SHARED WITH THE MAIN DESIGN AREA OF THE REPORT.

Affected parameters, or user options, were automatically populated with a default in prior versions of our software, but the new Report Engine needs explicit information for this in the Parameter EDIT box for the parameter:

1) An Explicit List that includes the default 2) An Explicit presence of the Default in the Default choice area.

Parameters that DON’T need this help: StartDate, EndDate and most other date parameters. Report is NOT one on the main menu, and the report writer has entered a special list of values.

Parameters that DO need help: String Parameters supported by TTX: ID, Location, AuxID, AuxID2, DEPT, Plan, INSCO, etc.

Free form string parameters: Various that you see in reports

Numeric parameters where a certain number is most desired default, or where a 0 or blank would produce a report error, and make the report fail to run.

Follow this example, circled items

D. Additional Topics:

MAPPING fields with new names During VERIFY DATABASE you might see mapping. Example: Middle to the former MI field:

Move the cursor over Middle in the upper right box, click to select. Then click OK.

How to See a List of All Subreports Report Menu, Performance Information Selection

A LIST of reports pops up. You are only interested in the report names. You can’t open them from here, but you can see them – Below: Main report and one subreport

Middle Initial Restoration with NULL Handling Examine report for any formula that use the mapped {Patient.Middle} field. If the space still is small and you must use middle initial, not the whole middle name, use the following.

Helpful Formula: Middle initial from Patient.MIDDLE field to replace old Patient.MI field Similar formula can be used with BILL.MIDDLE to replace BILL.MI local stringVar pMIStr := ""; If Not(IsNull({PATIENT.MIDDLE})) then If len({PATIENT.MIDDLE}) > 0 then pMIStr := Left({PATIENT.MIDDLE},1); pMIStr;

Selection (Before a Specific Date): Restoration with Year Comparison The default YEAR for an EMPTY date from a SAP ADT table in Crystal Reports is a NEGATIVE number. This causes some DATE comparison functions in Crystal Reports to fail, especially comparison against a date literal. Therefore, the date formulae need to reflect selection against the YEAR(DATE) Don’t use a Date literal or CDate literal. This is one of the common causes of data dropout in a Crystal Report in Compulink Advantage Version 11.0 software, even if that report ran well in prior versions of our program. Use the following sure a date is empty or filled with an earlier date than the usual empty default. TIP: Use common sense. For a birthdate and certain other dates, the year would have to be much earlier—such as 1850.

EXAMPLE in Selection formula: “Exception” for null handling in formula window frame (default setting) In the formula one of the selections:

{COLLECT.CLOSED} < Date(1980,01,01) CHANGE TO “Default” for null handling in formula window frame (see depiction below) Change that part of the formula to:

Year({COLLECT.CLOSED}) < 1980

Default Value Setting in the Selection Formula editor.

Other Helpful Formulae Available Some reports required more assistance in the selection of data, or other formulae. EXAMPLES for learning: In handling or detecting nulls, use code like that in the Patient.MIDDLE example above. Only evaluate it further if NOT null. Additional examples include, for optical related reports: For general reporting:

Null Fields in SQL Command Objects For reports based on SQL commands, use the non-scalar Empty(fld). For Crystal SQL, use of IsEmpty() or IsNull() might raise an error. [in the SQL command object] Iif(Empty(“TABLENAME”.”FIELDNAME”, [action when null], [action when not null]) Such as:

Handling and Preventing Error 562 Subreport parameters in common with the main report design (parameter of same name and type) will need to be freed of:

1) Value lists 2) Default values 3) Length limits 4) Range limits

Example: Report > Optical > Analysis > Statistics Main Design has a string parameter, DEPT. This has length limit of 0 to 3 and default list with ‘*’ and default value of ‘*’ This is fine for the main design, but not the subreport. In this case a subreport has a parameter DEPT .

Specstat.cbsrpt has two subreports, and here is the PROBLEM parameter DEPT in a subreport, which will need editing.

After editing, the subreport’s DEPT parameter will no longer generate Error 562. See post editing parameter next page >>>>>

Page 12: Crystal Reports Updating for Compulink Advantage …help.compulinkadvantage.com/en/pdf/CompulinkAdvantageVersion11...Crystal Reports Updating for Compulink Advantage Version 11 Page

DEPT subreport common parameter after editing. Now Error 562 is FIXED for this parameter.

Technical Scenario for shared parameters The core software calls to the reports, in such a way that the user can enter the parameter value once and choose that option across all subreports that share the same parameter name and type. As of Version 11 of Compulink Advantage, subreport parameters, if shared with the main report design, must be free of pre-set limits to avoid conflict of the communication of that user choice to all the subreport parameters of the same name and type in the report. Even if the user must choose a certain parameter to trigger the error, the underlying problem and solution are as noted above. Even though the error message mentions the subreport name, the real issue and solution are as noted above.

Error 562 can sometimes freeze the software

For some reports, the user can click “OK” to the Error 562 message and continue working. However, for some reports Error 562 freezes Compulink Advantage on that workstation, and it might freeze other resources or processes in the user’s network.

Handling and Preventing Hieroglyphics (wing-ding & Asian Script) in Group Labels Some of our reports have name display for groups set in the Group Expert group name option box. In Version 11 reports, this can result in non-alphabet characters in a group label for an unspecified value.

>>>> As an example, we might see a group label for Invent.Vendor in an optical or Inventory report with the Group Name set by formula in the Group OPTIONS box, similar to the following:

If {INVENT.VENDOR}='' then

'Not Specified'

Else

{INVENT.VENDOR}

HOW TO FIX: For the Vendor Group Options tab

Copy the group Name formula from group Name option in the Group Expert to Notepad.

Delete the formula from the group Name options in the group expert.

UNCHECK the “Customize Group Name Field” box (shown above) Create a new formula in your report. In our example it would be “groupVendor”

o Copy the SAME group name formula from Notepad to your new formula. o Set “Default Values for Nulls” in the groupVendor formula field. o SAVE the formula.

In the report designer, remove the group name field from the group header.

Place the new groupVendor formula in the Group Header.

Format the group name as desired.

TEST the report with various values and blanks for the Vendor option.
