Emma named this 1965 Cadillac de Ville ‘Bloody Mary’, for the paint colour but also for the fact it’s Emma’s favourite drink. Whatever the reason for the name we reckon this is a perfect pairing of two very cool redheads. Emma and Trev bought the Cad to use while they were travelling in the U.S, in particular for the ‘Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender’ and for their Las Vegas nuptials, which are both excellent reasons for venturing into the land of Elvis impersonators. More practically Emma and Trevor wanted a car that was complete and would serve as a replacement for their much-loved 1962 Impala 2-door which had been sold. As most of their previous cars were projects (currently in the shed is a 1954 2-door Ranch wagon and 1929 rat-rod pick-up) they were keen on a car that could do the US tour duties and then be shipped home and used in Emma’s photography business. Being one of 43,345 Coupe de Villes made in the 1965 model year, this Missouri car found its way to Las Vegas where local customiser Kyle Osborne waved his magic wand over the stock coupe and came up with the subtle look the car now features. Apart from the stunning paint work and pin striping (we’ll get to that soon) the Cadillac is bagged with a single battery powering the pneumatic set-up which allows Emma and T rev to literally ‘drop the Cad on its guts’ when the need arises. Under that long bonnet remains the standard 429ci V8 with Carter AFB 4-barrel sucking in the go juice backed by a Turbo Hydra- matic 3-speed, which Emma says gives the car more than enough power. Coming to the pin striping – all important in the kustom kulture world – the front stamp was done by a friend of Emma and Trev’s in Las Vegas named Zorac, who from all accounts is a bit of a maniac. Zorac’s design is in the shape of a cofn, which while ominous is a tting theme as in the boot the sub woofer box is cofn-shaped. Zorac was also drafted to sketch a tattoo of the Caddy which is now inked on Trev’s arm. At the back of the Caddy, the pin stripe on the boot was done by a Japanese guy named ‘Tee’ who stroked up a design in the shape of the devil. Used for a Las V egas w edding then driven around the U.S on a fake number plate, this low rider Caddy and its ow ners have a few tales to tell. 24 www.cruzin.com.au  www.cruzin.com.au 25 • Wordz Ben Dillon  PixNathan Duff

Adding to the ghoulish theme was asevered zombie head (not a real one!)

hanging from the rear-view mirror – “it was sobad it was good,” Emma laughs. Unfortunately

Customs decided they liked it better and took it asa souvenir after Emma and Trev shipped ‘Mary’ back

to Oz.

The Stockbridge crew certainly know how to standout from the crowd and their lowriding Caddy de nitely

turns heads in the small Northern N.S.W. town in whichthey reside, but it was in the States that the Caddy and

its owners received the most attention. “We drove it allover Nevada but the morning after we got into L.A we

were woken up at 6am by the police banging on the door,”Emma says. The cops had broken the driver’s door window

to access the car to see if it was stolen as their databaserecorded a mismatch between plate and car. Apparently thenumberplate Trev had bought from a souvenir shop and

slapped on the front of the Caddy, had once adorned aToyota Camry that had been scrapped and (hopefully)

recycled into a Coke can. Thankfully the of cers musthave deemed a pair of foreigners driving on a fake

plate not worth the paperwork so Emma and Trevwere let off with a warning.

Back on home soil, Emma hasbeen using the Caddy in her pin-up

photography business (Pinup Parlour)which started out of her love of kustom kulture,

rockabilly, rods, whiskey and photography. “I’mknown as ‘that girl in the Caddy’ and it’s a great

conversation starter and has been great for mybusiness,” Emma says. Everyone wants to be Emma’s

lighting boy as ladies visit Emma’s studio to dress up incostume and do a pin-up style photoshoot with props including

the coupe. “The girls are a bit shy at rst but they have a drink andin the end they are laying all over the car,” Emma smiles.

The car is now for sale, but Emma and Trev are keen to have another Cadillac in the family, as the ride quality is something they enjoy mostabout their de Ville. Emma puts it succinctly, “You know it’s true whatthey say ‘once you’ve had a Cadillac you never go back,’” she says.Let’s just hope that this time Trev will get to name the car after his favourite drink. A Cadillac named XXXX would really leave the

punters guessing.
