Self-Promotion

CLIA training has one primarypurpose in mind - that is todeliver a level of industrycertication that will enableyou to promote yourself asthe cruise expert to your

existing clients and in your ownmarketing.

Why is self-promotion soimportant?

Put yourself in the shoes of aconsumer; they get their hairdone at a hairdresser, theirhealth checked by a GP, theirdrains cleared by a plumber andtheir golf swing xed by a golfpro - so where should they belooking to book their next cruiseholiday, wherever that may be?

You can be sure yourcompetitors won’t be promotingyou as a cruise expert - this isentirely up to you!

Once you have a CLIAAccreditation, you have totalk about it in every singleconversation you are having.

A great opportunity to followthis mantra is during CLIA’sannual Cruise Week promotion.

During Cruise Week, all agentswill (or should be) looking tohighlight their own uniquecredentials to stand out fromthe crowd.

Having an industryaccreditation is a very credibletool to use as part of thisprocess.

If you don’t hold a CLIAAccreditation and think youare beyond training, maybe itis time to reconsider as thereare still a lot of people out therethat are yet to experience acruise.

LOCALS in the small Japanesevillage of Hiezu are both angryat and celebrating the arrival ofa horde of 4,000 Chinese visitorsfrom Royal Caribbean’s Quantumof the Seas last week.

The village - which sports atotal population of 3,455 andnormally only caters for tour

groups of around 200 - morethan doubled in size for the day.

While the huge tourist inuxwas great for the economy, itseems the visitors ticked othe locals by proceeding to buyeverything in sight, includingbasic necessities.

Shop owners got more thanthey bargained for, putting upsigns in Chinese to welcome thevisitors but were left surprisedwhen rows of shelves in everystore were wiped clean.

Locals found themselves withlittle left available, with itemsincluding eye drops, cosmetics, rice cookers and vacuum asksall leaving with the tourists.

It’s certainly an indication ofthe power of Chinese cruisepassengers, although retailerswill need to better prepare.
