• Composed of 18 independent experts selected by States parties based on the following criteria; expertise in the field, equitable distribution of gender, geographic region, and representation of different government systems and participation of experts with disabilities.
• Committee examines periodic reports submitted by States, communicates with individual parties, sets guidelines, conducts inquiries, and creates general observations and recommendations.

Elections to the CRPD Committee
• Candidates are proposed by States Parties (one per country)
• Governments should consult with DPOs prior to their nomination
• Candidates should meet the requirements established in the CRPD – Independence – Knowledge of human rights of persons with disabilities
• States that have ratified the CRPD vote among the nominated candidates during the biannual Conference of States Parties
