It’s No Joke

April 2018
April 1st is often referred to as April
Fools Day and is a day for playing
tricks and pranks. But for us, April
1st will be Easter Sunday - a day of
celebration of Christ rising from the
dead. The resurrection (a fact of his-
tory) is no joke!
There were some, in the time of these
events, who thought the resurrection
was some sort of prank. Some pro-
claimed that the disciples stole the
body and then announced a resurrec-
tion. Others thought that possibly
Christ did not really die as a result of
the flogging and crucifixion; that
somehow he “recovered” while in the
tomb and came back to his disciples.
But the folly of these two theories
have long since been exposed. No,
the only logical explanation is that
Christ came back to life, just as he
said he would. And thus his predic-
tion that, “I am the resurrection and
the life” was literally fulfilled. On
April 1st we won’t tell jokes, but we
will proclaim, He is Risen for all to
hear.

Guidelines
Available
A “Guideline Booklet” is prepared
each quadrennium for use by the var-
ious work areas and committee’s of
the church. We have recently pur-
chased the entire Guideline set on
DVD and have made hard copies for
each committee and council in the
church. If you are the chair of a
committee or work area, we have a
guideline book for you in our church
office. Further, if after reading
through the book, you would like a
copy for each of your group mem-
bers, simply let Tracy know how
many copies you need and she will
prepare them for you. Please note,
that these guidelines do not offer an
“insisted upon way” for your group
to conduct it’s business, rather it pro-
vides an over all description of the
role of each group and recommenda-
tions as to how you can proceed with
your work throughout the year.
Easter Sunday
Easter, this year, comes on the first
Sunday of April; April 1st. This
will be a wonderful day of celebrat-
ing the resurrection of our Lord.
The sanctuary service that day will
include special anthems by both our
choir and bell choir along with the
great resurrection hymns of the
faith. In the Family Life service the
praise of Easter will be shared with
more contemporary style praise
songs. In both services Holy Com-
munion will be served.
Change the World
Easter Sunday will mark the conclu-
sion of our Change the World
change jar offerings. The jars will
remain in place through that Sunday
morning. Please place change, mon-
ies, and checks in one of our jars
and these will all go towards one of
the various missions supported
through our Conference apportion-
ments.

Children’s Director
Tabitha has recently shared with our SPRC and Children’s Council that though
she loves her position as children’s director, it is simply too much for her to do
this job as well as teach school full time and take care of home responsibili-
ties. She has agreed to one of two possibilities: If we can find someone to
take her place as Children’s Director, she would be happy to assist with vari-
ous responsibilities as a volunteer. The other possibility is if someone would
be willing to share the Children’s Director responsibilities with her, she would
be open to dividing the position and serving as a co-director. That way one
could cover the bases if the other one needed to be gone for a specific Sunday.
Either way is a possibility, depending upon finding the right person for the
position. If you have interest, or if you know of someone who might be inter-
ested in being either a part-time Director of Children’s Ministries, or be a Co-
Director of Children’s Ministries, please contact Pastor Schneider.
Pre-Conference Finance Meeting
Our Annual Conference is facing ongoing budget concerns as the revenues for
Conference operations continue to decline. A number of current proposals
and possible future proposals are now being considered. (As an example, one
of the proposals, to be considered this year, is a reduction in Health Care ben-
efits for retired clergy beginning in June of 2019.) All interested parties are
invited to a Pre-Conference presentation to be shared Sunday afternoon, April
29th at 4:00. This meeting will be led by Norma Quin, who is the current
Comptroller for the Conference. It will be held at Faith United Methodist
Church. Conference delegates, if at all possible, should plan to attend this
meeting. But, members of the church, Finance Committee, and Church Coun-
cil are also invited.
Rummage Sale
Thank you to all who helped make this year’s UMW Rummage Sale a huge
success. Nearly $4,000 was raised this year through the efforts of those who
donated, organized, managed, and cleaned up.

Wednesday Study
The Wednesday night study group is
now doing a video study featuring
Max Lucado titled, Come Thirsty.
The sub-title is “Receive What Your
Soul Longs For.” This group meets
from 6:15 to 7:15 and is led by Pas-
tor Schneider. All are invited.
Men’s Sharing
The Saturday morning men’s shar-

morning, in the fellowship hall, for
study, prayer, and sharing. They are
currently doing a study titled,
“The Comeback” by Louie Giglio.
There is no charge to participate
with this group.
Women’s Sharing Groups
The women’s sharing groups are designed to encourage women to maintain the
daily practice of a “quiet time” (a time of devotion and prayer). Each week the
women in these groups share how God is speaking to them through their time
of devotion and exchange ideas as to how to enhance the quality of their devo-
tion and prayer life. Currently there are two groups. One meets on Mondays
at 12:00pm; the other meets on Wednesday at 5:15pm. Please call Kristi
Schneider for further details.
Sunday Bible Study
Pastor Schneider is presently leading a Bible Study group on Sunday after-
noons using a Bible study guide by Charles Swindoll titled, God’s Master-
work. This study involves a survey of the entire Bible. We are in the early
stages of this study and presently reading through the book of Exodus. This
class meets each Sunday from 3:30-5:00. All are invited. The cost for a study
book is $5.00. Please contact Pastor Schneider for details.

March was a great month for our Youth Group! Each week our
youth took turns giving devotions, lessons, and speaking about
the things God was laying on their hearts! We took a group of 8
to Angel Fire, New Mexico over Spring Break for a Ski Trip.
We had a great time! A big shout out to the Holmes' and Greg
Helms for being our adults for this trip! Our Easter fundraiser
"Egg My Yard" was a success we hid over 300 eggs at houses
that wanted their yards filled!
April will start off with some activity, too! April 6-8 we are tak-
ing a group of 15 to Branson, Missouri for Young Christians
Weekend! Throughout this month, we will be finishing up our 8
week confirmation class. While going through confirmation our
youth have learned a lot.
On a different note, looking ahead to Summer Camp. We will be
holding a Summer Camp registration date/parent meeting on
April 29, 2018 at 4:00PM. ALL students who are wanting to
attend camp MUST be there along with have a parent there. We
will discuss camp dates, items to bring, expectations, and fund-
raisers.
Our next fundraiser will be within the church walls! We will be
taking orders for Mother's Day roses! They will available on
Mother's Day at Church to pick up! Be on the look out for those
forms!
If you feel led to volunteer with our Youth, please contact our
Youth Minister, we have plenty of opportunities for you to serve
with us.

Spring is here! I love the warmer weather and the
longer daylight hours! We will begin our month with
the celebration of Easter! Our annual egg hunt will be
on March 31, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. We will need a few
volunteers to help hide the eggs!
We are working on planning a School’s Out family
skating party in May. We are just waiting to see if
there will be anymore make-up days tacked on to the
end of May. We should know by mid-April when the
last day of school will be!
Vacation Bible School planning is in full swing! Va-
cation Bible School will begin on June 4th from
6:00p.m.-8:30p.m. We will need a lot of help to
achieve a successful Bible School. Please let me
know where you can help out!
What’s happening in Sunday School? We just com-
pleted Unit 1 – In the Name of the Lord. We will
begin Unit 2 – Go and Tell on April 1st.
We are in need of volunteers to assist during Sunday
School and Children’s Church so that we are in com-
pliance with Safe Sanctuary policies. Please let me
know if you can help one week out of the month for
Sunday School or Children’s Church or both!
