THE ELYSIAN

Designed in 1960 by renownedarchitect William Pereira, theMetropolitan Water District building

was a landmark in Los Angeles’ Echo Parkneighborhood. After sitting empty for nearly20 years, the iconic building went through a$30 million renovation and was convertedinto The Elysian—a luxurious multifamilyapartment complex with breathtaking 360°views of Downtown Los Angeles andsurrounding areas. Linear City Development brought their

proven experience renovating old buildingsinto award-winning structures to The Elysianadaptive reuse project. The company’s bodyof work includes The Toy Factory Lofts andBiscuit Company Lofts. With The Elysian,Linear City envisioned a design that wouldstay true to its original minimalist characterwhile adding contemporary flair. Theyenlisted the services of David Lawrence GrayArchitects to carry out the vision. Expansive views of the Downtown Los

Angeles skyline were a key element to theproperty’s design. To realize this objective,CRL-U.S. Aluminum’s Series 3250 CurtainWall System was specified and installed inthe 13 penthouses featuring 20-foot floor-to-ceiling windows. A standard in performancefor low to mid-rise applications, the Series3250 Curtain Wall is thermally improved by acontinuous thermal spacer that is interlockedwithin pressure plates. This helps maximizethermal performance to improve energyefficiency and maintain optimal interiortemperatures. The system is paired withenergy-efficient insulating glass to reduceenergy costs and increase comfort forresidents.

The Delmar Loop is a historic district that offers visitors seven blocks of retailshops, savory dining destinations, and live entertainment. The Loop was selectedby neighboring Washington University to be the site for The Lofts—a new 4.5-acre

mixed-use residential complex for students. Designed by William Rawn Associates, TheLofts at Washington University features 250 apartments, able to house up to 600students. At a project cost of $80 million, construction of The Lofts was a significantundertaking that took years of planning.A primary goal during development was to create a mixed-use residential community

that would not only accentuate the surrounding area’s vibrant atmosphere, but also seta standard for energy conservation and sustainable living. As part of a large-scalecollaborative effort led by PARIC Construction, CRL-U.S. Aluminum was commissionedto supply energy-efficient glazing solutions. The Lofts is lined with CRL’s Series TT601 Unit-Glazed Window Wall System. This

system utilizes molded corner sponge gaskets for superior air and water infiltrationperformance. Series TT601 also offers improved thermal performance by employingPoly-Aluminizer™ thermal break technology. Because it is a unit-glazed system,additional benefits include faster installation times and reduced labor costs. Completingthe fenestration scheme are the Series 3250 Curtain Wall, Series FT451 Flush FrontThermal Storefront, and Series 7600 Windows. Together, these systems reduce energyusage by helping to maintain comfortable interior temperatures throughout the year.

Named for its two-story exteriorenvelope of glass partitions invarious hues, Colours Condos is a

mixed-use residential tower that strikesan optimal balance between performanceand aesthetics. Reputable manufacturerswere enlisted to supply specializedcomponents during the various phases ofdevelopment; among them was CRL-U.S.Aluminum.The versatile CRL Series 3250 Curtain

Wall System defines the building’s lowerlevel façade. Beautifully integrated withthe iconic colored glass panels for whichthe building is named, the Series 3250Curtain Wall serves to enhance existingaesthetics by concealing the residentialparking units found within. Because of the high foot traffic, CRL

Series 400 Medium Stile Entrance Doorswere specified for the ground floor.Engineered for durability and rapidproduction, Series 400 Entrance Doorshave widespread applications, and comeequipped with patented CORNER-LOC®

technology—the strongest door cornerassembly available.The residential units spanning the

higher tower floors are enveloped in CRLSeries 3150 Curtain Wall. Using narrow,silicone-glazed vertical mullions, thecurtain wall creates an all-glassappearance that complements the floor-to-ceiling fenestration scheme. Kirby. A visual focal point in the affluentneighborhood of Upper Kirby, the 30-storycondominium tower offers residentsexceptional services and amenities that setthe standard for luxury living.2727 Kirby features 143 balconies with

inspiring views of Downtown Houston andsurrounding areas. The challenge during itsrenovation was specifying 3,500 linear feet of glass railing that delivered performance,quick installation, and high-end aesthetics all in one. The solution? CRL’s GRS TAPER-LOC® Guardrail System for laminated tempered glass. The GRS TAPER-LOC® Guardrail System

is the safest and strongest glass railingsystem on the market, providing unparalleledload and impact performance. With itspatented dry glaze assembly, installationtime can be reduced by as much as 50%,and glass panel adjustment or replacementis considerably simplified.
