Crippleghost :or: Black Behind the Birthwall
Crippleghost 1: Crippleghost looked out of the window at the blackness of the mountain & felt
like he was born that moment. Born.
Crippleghost 2: Out of the blackness of the mountain. He knew he had a life before this. Was a
grown man. Had done many things.
Crippleghost 3: But now all behind him was blackness. All before him was blaring florescence.
An office of sunshine symbols.
Crippleghost 4: A tweed chair with so many colors his eyes hurt. His whole body ached in fact.
His big hands. His big arms.
Crippleghost 5: A kind of ache for monsters only. Nightmare ache. The full capacity forgotten
when waking. Only an echo left over.
Crippleghost 6: Veins throbbed like every fact before then had sunk in there despite the
forgetting. All the redness.
Crippleghost 7: “So your name is Crippleghost?” The lady with the clipboard clicked her pen.
Looked down. Looked back up. “Yes.”
Crippleghost 8: He could see his own reflection in her glasses. The blur face. The blood red. Hecould see it as well as everyone.
Crippleghost 9: “Crippleghost, 1st name or last name?” In a comfy chair twin to his own.
Reminded him of other offices. Wards back east.
Crippleghost 10: Men behind brown oaken fortresses. Murder pens in hand. “I don’t know,” he
said, realizing she had asked a question.
Crippleghost 11: “I have to list a 1st & a last name.” Silence. Paper suns. “We can give you a 1st
name. Merely a clerical issue.” Smile.
#Crippleghost 11.5: "#icantgoadaywithout looking at the sun & being thankful I'm here."
Crippleghost wanted burning now.
Crippleghost 12: “How about Bob Crippleghost?” “Been.” “So your first name is Ben?” “No. I
just mean like no longer…is…”

Crippleghost 13: “So we’ll call you Ben Crippleghost. For official purposes. Here.” A sticker:
“Hello. My name is Ben.”
Crippleghost 14: Being born. A new name. He would be a kind man to be this Ben. That
Crippleghost, though, always remained.
Crippleghost 15: “My name is Dia. Nice to meet you. Now that we know each other, mind if I
ask…the face, a condition we should know about?”
Crippleghost 16: “What do you mean?” “Clerical purposes. That’s all. Certain things we should
know.” “What do you mean?”
Crippleghost 17: “Don’t take this personally, Ben, but it seems like your face is blood red &
blurry.” Silence. “Forget it.”
Crippleghost 18: “We’ve already set you up with a home. The placement program guarantees
you a spot & any provisions you need.”
Crippleghost 19: “You come highly recommended by Winnie & the whole bunch at the wards.
This is such important research to RIHEBO.”
Crippleghost 20: “There’s just one more thing: are you familiar with this?” She pulled out a
crystal like a narrow coffin 10 inches long.
Crippleghost 21: “No? It’s called a Flood Crystal though I call it a Fortress of Solitude Crystal.
Did you see the Superman movies? No?”
Crippleghost 22: “Well, it’s called a Flood Crystal because it was found, supposedly, on Mount
Ararat. We found some on Glass Mountain.”
Crippleghost 23: She pointed out of her window at Glass Mountain in the distance as if
Crippleghost didn’t know what Glass Mountain was.
Crippleghost 24: So many of them treated him like stupidity was his problem.
Crippleghost 25: “You hold onto the crystal, & you can record a memory. That memory kept
within the stone of the mountain.”
Crippleghost 26: “The mountain’s memory. No machinery. You’ll see. Very user friendly.” “Is
that the experiment?” “No. Just HR.”

#Crippleghost 26.5: "#wheneverimbored I like to record memories & think about them lasting
forever. Ever think about forever, Ben?"
Crippleghost 27: “Get to know the people.” She smiled. He hated the teeth now. Imagined a red
hole. Being good Ben would be difficult.
Crippleghost 28: Looked for his new home now. Looked up at the skyline. The mysterious
buildings of gray & glass light like years above him.
Crippleghost 29: So much of everything seemed new. He was supposed to be dead. Doctors
might say. He shouldn’t exist. Like dreams.
Crippleghost 30: Everything had the pallor of 1st time but not the delight related to rebirth. No, it
was only the normalcy.
Crippleghost 31: Everything was frightening because he felt like his whole body was breakable
& soft like baby flesh.
Crippleghost 32: Saw those black spheres floating over the building. Like hot air balloons in
future movies. Shouldn’t be there. Like him.
Crippleghost 33: Floating black suns. Made of stone or black fire. Or somehow both. Like God
had come to earth & his judging eye.
#Crippleghost 33.5: "#ihavenotolerance for eyes like God's eye," he thought. But this wasn't
good Ben talking.
Crippleghost 34: Black suns seemed not new like the rest. Only out of place. Everyone was
walking along as if there was nothing to this.
Crippleghost 35: Maybe this was how the world was now & he had only to get used to it. Full of
black suns & lack of interest.
Crippleghost 36: Some people carried those crystals like the woman had given him. Maybe
everyone in the world had 1.
Crippleghost 37: The apartment had a living room. Couchbed. Bathroom. Small kitchen. ½
fridge & microwave. Little desk in a corner.
Crippleghost 38: 10 docking stations like umbrella stands with wires & machinery took up more
7/29/2019 Crippleghost :oR: Black Behind the Birth Wall
http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/crippleghost-or-black-behind-the-birth-wall 4/18
space in the apartment than anything.
Crippleghost 39: In each 1 was a crystal. On a table in the ½ circle, a bigger docking station & a
device like an old calculator.
Crippleghost 40: Big face. Glowing green figures that didn’t make sense. An instruction manual
nearby: How to Use Your Flood Crystals.
Crippleghost 41: Very short instructions. “Enter name on the console to access & share
memories. Enter your own name on the home crystal.”
Crippleghost 42: Home crystal. Must’ve been the 1 in the middle. He touched the green face of
the calculator until something made sense.
Crippleghost 43: “Enter Name.” He entered Ben Crippleghost. His name on the green screensoon shrank to a small box. His new name gone now.
Crippleghost 44: A stylus etched Ben Crippleghost in the crystal. Crick crick sound, white dust
like carving in a shard of ice.
Crippleghost 45: “Now enter 10 names for sharers. If you want more than 10 you must purchase
more crystals.”
Crippleghost 46: “Note: Network connections allow for more contacts, so consider your base 10
carefully to avoid unnecessary redundancy.”
Crippleghost 47: They wanted 10. He only knew 1 name. Winnie “Rock the Bells” Belsenberg.
The only 1 with shared memories. Living.
Crippleghost 48: Winnie would never get blacked away behind the birthwall. He typed in Winnie
Belsenberg. Static shock, finger to button.
Crippleghost 49: Winnie now in a green field among other green characters in the green field.
The only thing now with meaning.
Crippleghost 50: Soon, like all names, it reduced down to 1 box. Winnie’s 1 box. The stylus
etched the name in crystal. Snow fell.
Crippleghost 51: Soon tree branches grew out of the box. At every bough & every tip there was
again a little box like fruit hanging.
7/29/2019 Crippleghost :oR: Black Behind the Birth Wall
http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/crippleghost-or-black-behind-the-birth-wall 5/18
Crippleghost 52: Meaningless. All of it. But the fruit seemed like colorful worlds now stuck in
small boxes. Lush like real tasting.
#Crippleghost #52.5: He wished he could #juststoprightthere, not inquire further, let the lush
possibility just be all, wall it all away.
Crippleghost 53: The book said touch the home square & begin recording. He touched it.
Brought memories to mind. But only after birthwall.
Crippleghost 54: Nothing happened. He read the book. Realized he had to say the memory out
loud. It recorded storytelling, not memories.
Crippleghost 55: He said, “I remember I was in an interview. This lady told me about the
crystals. I’m trying it now. That’s my memory.”
Crippleghost 56: Nothing happened except a “complete” blinked on the calculator screen. The
apartment silent again. Only the nothing sound.
Crippleghost 57: The crystals. Those blinking lights. He hated it all. A joke they were playing.
They thought stupidity was his problem.
Crippleghost 58: Pulled the home crystal out of its holder. To smash it somehow. Then a bright
phantom in front of his couch.
Crippleghost 59: Winnie’s crystal was bright. Phantom of Winnie herself washed out in whitelight. Always washed out anyway, pale & blonde.
Crippleghost 60: Wore red kerchiefs & red wigs in his memory. To stand out, maybe, next to the
white plaster walls of the school.
Crippleghost 61: Now in this true phantom form her face confused until the phantom said, “Oh,
hey Crippleghost. What’s up?”
Crippleghost 62: “Nothing, bye!” Shoved the crystal back in. Phantom gone. Hadn’t felt fear like
that since the blackness time.
Crippleghost 63: Fine when he thought it was only an image, but as soon as he realized she could
see him it became a death panic.
Crippleghost 64: Only a few minutes later the phantom came back. “Hey, Crippleghost,” big
smile, “I saw you recorded a memory.”
7/29/2019 Crippleghost :oR: Black Behind the Birth Wall
http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/crippleghost-or-black-behind-the-birth-wall 6/18
Crippleghost 65: “I left you a Good Memory. Sort of the currency of this thing. My memories of
you always get me tons of those hearts.”
Crippleghost 66: “By the way, to contact me any time. Hold the home crystal & think of me.
Then a light blinks. Have fun!”
Crippleghost 67: Gone again. The box of his 1st memory had a little red heart hanging from it
like the green fruit had ripened.
Crippleghost 68: “You have 1 Good Memory.” He touched it. A quick burst of euphoria washed
over him.
Crippleghost 69: Euphoria. Artificial like a drug. He knew that well enough. The wards. Doctors
told him he couldn’t ever feel.
Crippleghost 70: Some echo from the blackness behind the birthwall. He couldn’t feel & that
was his problem. That was always wrong.
Crippleghost 71: He had to figure out these crystals now. Touched 1 of Winnie’s memory boxes.
The phantom of Winnie flashed up again.
Crippleghost 72: “I remember the angels,” the phantom said, “at my grandma’s house at
Christmas. The fire going, everything warm.”
Crippleghost 73: “& that smell. I can’t describe it. The orange carpet & red furniture like
everything came out of that fire place.”
Crippleghost 74: “I think that’s why when she died all I felt was cold, her skin, the funeral home,
the graveside. All the color gone.”
Crippleghost 75: “Oh well. That’s it, I guess.” He felt every sensation. Every emotion. Even “I
can’t describe it.” She didn’t have to.
Crippleghost 76: Over now. Branches bloomed out with hearts at the tip. The script said, “You
have 152 Good Memories.”
Crippleghost 77: That’s what she meant. Hearts. Repayment for allowing others to share
memory. Like being loved. But safer.
Crippleghost 78: Crippleghost decided to let this go for the night. Revisit it later. Sat back. Saw
7/29/2019 Crippleghost :oR: Black Behind the Birth Wall
http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/crippleghost-or-black-behind-the-birth-wall 7/18
the black suns out of his window.
Crippleghost 79: Too much for his birthday. Something profound & troubling about the black
suns. Some connection to Flood Crystals.
Crippleghost 80: He read through the book like a mystery novel about black suns until he fell
asleep on the couch in his interview suit. (7/15)
Crippleghost 81: Crippleghost only had 7 suits to wear. Charcoal gray. No other clothes. Suits he
bought for 7 dollars at a thrift store.
Crippleghost 82: Where else would he go but RIHEBO? Who else would see him? The next day
he simply changed into the 2nd suit.
Crippleghost 83: The 1st
day at RIHEBO. Saw Winnie as he was being led past. In her red wig.Tool belt. Tools in hand. Waved hi. Smiled.
Crippleghost 84: He wanted to stop & see Winnie’s real face smile. Hear about machines she
worked on. But they kept leading him away.
Crippleghost 85: Led to a large white room. All walls white, glowing in the florescent light
running in strips along the wall & floor.
Crippleghost 86: The room a cube, 3 stories tall & long & wide. Observation window at the 2nd
story. For the scientists. All cold.
Crippleghost 87: The other end of the room, a chair with wires & machines. Where Crippleghost
would be wired in. What Winnie worked on?
Crippleghost 88: At the ceiling floating with nothing attached, 1 of those black suns. Now that it
was quiet, he could hear the sound.
Crippleghost 89: A roar. Barely audible. What a sun might sound like. Or animal. Like the
pulsating of a sleeping predator. Breath.
Crippleghost 90: But no, he told himself, it sounded like a sustained low register note on a bass
violin. The sound that started the world. (7/15)
Crippleghost 91: As they strapped him in, they told him to sit there & not think too hard about
anything, kay? Thanks. Great.
7/29/2019 Crippleghost :oR: Black Behind the Birth Wall
http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/crippleghost-or-black-behind-the-birth-wall 8/18
Crippleghost 92: Clear his mind of any thoughts but the room & the present moment. He thought
about the birthwall behind which was only darkness.
Crippleghost 93: The wall kept that terrible awful wonderful disgustingness from washing over
his body. Like he had all of hell trapped.
Crippleghost 94: Even thinking about it like this he felt things slipping through cracks, but he
was practiced at patching them up.
Crippleghost 95: Meanwhile in the room nothing was happening. Only the same whiteness. Only
the same black sun. The sound.
Crippleghost 96: He could see the scientists in the window. Eyes squinty. Chattering mouths. But
soon boredom. Aware of a future of nothing.
Crippleghost 97: Then he looked down. There before him a black rabbit sniffing & hopping
toward him. Without concern, it seemed.
Crippleghost 98: Clear this rabbit was made out of the same stuff as the black sun. He wasn’t
sure why he was so frightened of the rabbit.
Crippleghost 99: Certain it was coming for him & he was strapped in. Scientists came in. Caged
it. Chattering like meaning in this.
Crippleghost 100: The only incident in the day of research, but the scientists in the windowseemed satisfied. Big grinning faces now.
Crippleghost 101: This nothing continued for days. But there was screaming in the room next
door. Screaming like murder sounds.
Crippleghost 102: Went to the RIHEBO cafeteria for lunch. Saw Winnie at a crescent table with
9 others. Wanted to leave, become invisible.
Crippleghost 103: He was still embarrassed about what he had done. Sat alone. Winnie saw him
& called him over anyway. Her smile again.
Crippleghost 104: To the 9, she said, “This is Crippleghost. I guess Ben Crippleghost. Calling
you Ben feels weird.” Hand on arm.
Crippleghost 105: “We go way back, since we were kids. Or since I was a kid.” Arm around
shoulder now. Lion teeth.
7/29/2019 Crippleghost :oR: Black Behind the Birth Wall
http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/crippleghost-or-black-behind-the-birth-wall 9/18
Crippleghost 106: “All these guys are on my network. They’ll have access to your memories”
Naked. Before Winnie & all of them.
Crippleghost 107: Wanted to collapse inward & be forever small. “Crippleghost has to have
great memories, right? I mean of all people.”
Crippleghost 108: “Could you imagine what goes on up there?” She laughed & looked in his
eyes. The smile became her old sadness.
Crippleghost 109: None of those 9 awful people saw. He endured their voices until he finished.
Left. Let Winnie touch his arm again.
Crippleghost 110: The network, he realized. The tree. All these people in the roots & limbs of it.
Minds all open & open to his mind.
Crippleghost 111: That evening he touched the See Network box. Trees connected to trees
connected to trees. Boxes bloomed across the screen.
Crippleghost 112: There could have been 1,000,000s of them stretching out to infinite green, but
the screen was too small to show this.
Crippleghost 113: This nonsense gave him a hole into any stranger’s mind. The power. The
intimacy of that. Frightening. Exhilarating.
Crippleghost 114: He could exist inside of people without them having to know. Everything else
in the separated world became ugly.
Crippleghost 115: He saw that the nameplate of his neighbor said Bob Babylonfox. Just as his
own nameplate said Ben Crippleghost.
Crippleghost 116: He was most curious about this since Bob was almost his own fake 1st name.
He stood frozen before this nameplate.
Crippleghost 117: This was his ugly home, he felt. He liked the idea that he lived here in these
catacombs alone, though it lacked reason.
Crippleghost 118: Stood frozen like animals. Heard the door click. Ran away down the hall.
Didn’t want to meet Bob Babylonfox.
Crippleghost 119: Later he was in the hall. Bob Babylonfox’s door opened. Crippleghost

Crippleghost 132: Bob Babylonfox went to the testing room next to his. The 1 screaming all
those times. He recognized the voice now.
Crippleghost 133: They had several silent encounters in the hall & elevator until 1 day Bob
Babylonfox said, “Do you know the Murder Club?”
Crippleghost 134: “The Murder Club is this thing we do in the laundry room every week, me &
some of the others who live in the building.”
Crippleghost 135: “Hinden puts it together. You’ve met Hinden, right? He lives 1 floor below us.
He’s the 1 who sets up the murder.”
Crippleghost 136: “You see, there’s a murder, & we’re all detectives, but1 of us is a murderer.
It’s an elimination thing.”
Crippleghost 137: Crippleghost said, “Like Clue when we were kids.” “A little. So you’re
coming?” “No.” Frozen smile. Confusion eyes.
Crippleghost 138: Later Crippleghost was down in the laundry room washing 6 of his 7 suits.
Big crowd. Murder Club in the laundry room.
Crippleghost 139: They were freaks, all of them. This whole Murder Club. In costumes. Maybe
real monsters. Maybe ugly deformed people.
Crippleghost 140: A guy with an empty unadorned glass eye, billiard ball size, full of somesloshy liquid. Water hair like leaking faucets.
Crippleghost 141: A guy with red finger hair. A guy with a head like the planet mars so
disproportionate he looked like a map pin.
Crippleghost 142: A guy with a face like a blooming rose. Dripping some red liquid. Didn’t seem
to be nectar. He laughed like idiots laugh.
Crippleghost 143: Bob said, “Hey, Ben, we were about to get started. I’m so glad you came. It’s
mingle time, so mingle. Have fun, buddy.”
Crippleghost 144: Without asking permission the damned freaks asked him questions. “So where
were you the time of the murder?”
Crippleghost 145: “Nowhere. I’ve only been nowhere.” “How exactly did you know the victim?”
“I don’t know.” Got a nametag. “Ben C.”
7/29/2019 Crippleghost :oR: Black Behind the Birth Wall
http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/crippleghost-or-black-behind-the-birth-wall 12/18
Crippleghost 145.5: Some of them spoke nonsense. “The face, is that Seklestus or
Ulmatribanatalicia? Adult development or birth defect?”
Crippleghost 146: He learned a little more about RIHEBO. “So, Ben, what school of thought are
you? 1 of those RIHEBO genocide nuts?”
Crippleghost 147: “Some think they only pick freaks because we’re special. Genocide nuts think
they want us to get ourselves killed.”
Crippleghost 148: So all these freaks were RIHEBO subjects. “Like the RIHEBO Nazis want to
kill us off just because we’re ugly. Please.”
Crippleghost 149: They sat down in a circle. He sat down too. Waiting for his suits to dry.
Wanting to know more mysteries.
Crippleghost 150: The moderator. Hinden, Bob Babylonfox had called him. Crippleghost noticed
“Bob H.” on his nametag. H. for Hinden.
Crippleghost 151: He hadn’t bothered to look at other nametags. He looked now. All of them
named Bob. Bob A., Bob E., Bob B., Bob F.
Crippleghost 152: Hinden. 4 feet tall. Skin gray like hospitals. In his forehead an inclined crater.
In the darkness, a smaller head. A twin.
Crippleghost 153: The twin head peeked out of the black crater like a naughty child. Hinden had
that wry smile like he knew everything.
Crippleghost 154: So excited about this little game of his. Hands clasped between his legs.
Pushing against the chair like a kid would do.
Crippleghost 155: Each freak in the circle got 1 question. “We know midnight, library, hatchet.
The blood red rug was covered in blood.”
Crippleghost 156: “But was the floor covered in his blood? See, I think he was dragged into the
library. That changes everything.”
Crippleghost 157: Hinden got to Crippleghost. “Library. Hmmph.” Like a laugh. They skipped
him. The murderer was the rose head, Bob L.
Crippleghost 158: Crippleghost returned. A good time to do laundry. Each week afterward he did
7/29/2019 Crippleghost :oR: Black Behind the Birth Wall
http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/crippleghost-or-black-behind-the-birth-wall 13/18
laundry during the Murder Club.
Crippleghost 159: Hinden seemed to enjoy making Crippleghost the murderer. He didn’t mind
being their murderer. Everyone there was so ugly.
Crippleghost 160: Spending so much time inside of Winnie’s memories & memories of others.
Hated this present & ugly & pale & wretched.
Crippleghost 161: Tried to leave many memories. Craved those little hearts like hunger. What he
missed. Whatever the birthwall held back.
Crippleghost 162: He rarely got hearts. Only that 1st heart from Winnie, really. Only a few
others here & there. Heart empty, he needed.
Crippleghost 163: “I remember I tried to wash my suits. Ran out of detergent. Went to buy some, but they…didn’t have the right detergent.”
Crippleghost 164: “Had to choose between wearing dirty clothes & buying the wrong detergent.
So I…bought the wrong detergent.” No hearts.
Crippleghost 165: “I remember there aren’t many frozen meals for vegetarians. Had to eat the
same lunch & dinner. Cheese enchilada.”
Crippleghost 166: “The store was cold. Too white. I was alone there. People looking at me. Lost
in there. That’s all.” No hearts.
Crippleghost 167: Tried to figure out how get hearts. People had to like seeing him normal. See
him being the good Ben. Nothing.
Crippleghost 168: Then 1 day he let slip that he sat in with the Murder Club. The hate, paranoia,
ugliness, murder of the Murder Club.
Crippleghost 169: He let a little bit of the hell behind the wall slip. That earned him 12 hearts.
That was it. Letting the wall crack up & hell slip through.
Crippleghost 170: Let a little more of the hell slip out each time. Even recording normal
memories. More hearts each time. 100s even.
Crippleghost 171: He overheard Bob Babylonfox say, “They say think of nothing, but I only
think of rabbits. Maybe I’m hungry.”
7/29/2019 Crippleghost :oR: Black Behind the Birth Wall
http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/crippleghost-or-black-behind-the-birth-wall 14/18
Crippleghost 172: “Funny thing is what I get in the room is big black pegasuses.” “Hippogriffs,”
Crippleghost cut in. Agitated tone.
Crippleghost 173: “What?” “Pegasus is the proper name of 1. Hippogriff is the species name.”
“Oh, cool, good to know, buddy.”
Crippleghost 174: Bob Babylonfox was murdered, 6 black arrows. The Murder Club thought
they could figure it out before the real detectives.
Crippleghost 175: Nobody ever did figure it out. Black arrows made of stone or fire.
Crippleghost’s memory about that got 500 hearts.
Crippleghost 176: “I remember I heard about this guy Bob Babylonfox. Dead. Their faces.
Desperate. Like death was as real as furniture.”
Crippleghost 177: When Hinden was murdered, a simple neck break. Same deal. Thinking about
the murder drove the heart count up to 500 again.
Crippleghost 178: Felt like that rush of happy from all those hearts would never end. But it did.
Everything empty again.
Crippleghost 179: The world was worse without. The world was only the Murder Club again.
Pretty soon the whole Murder Club was wiped out.
Crippleghost 180: Rose head drowned in a room full of black water. Mars head, limbs choppedoff by a black axe left behind.
Crippleghost 181: Finger wig, a black bullet, ruled suicide. Water hair, eaten by an animal that
left behind one black tooth.
Crippleghost 182: Scientists now chattered about testing rooms filled with hungry pegasuses.
Crippleghost didn’t bother correcting them.
Crippleghost 183: The last time he saw Winnie, she asked him to help carry some equipment.
Big chair. No longer needed without subjects.
Crippleghost 184: “Give me a hand, Ben.” A laugh at the name Ben. He could’ve carried it
alone, but she took joy in her own effort to lift.
Crippleghost 185: In the closet now putting chair away. Tight space. Couldn’t help but touch.
Crippleghost reeled back like electricity.
7/29/2019 Crippleghost :oR: Black Behind the Birth Wall
http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/crippleghost-or-black-behind-the-birth-wall 15/18
Crippleghost 186: So long in that recorded memory. Had he touched all the other memories, this
kind of presence might kill him.
Crippleghost 187: “Sorry I haven’t been keeping up with your memories. What have you been up
to lately?” “Um, a club. Club meeting.”
Crippleghost 188: “Hey, did you ever check out those memories of you & me together? Like that
snow time. The sledding. The snowman.” “No.”
Crippleghost 189: “I still laugh about that. Got tons of hearts. Well, that’s it. Thanks, Ben.”
Kissed his cheek despite the blood blur.
Crippleghost 190: She skipped away. He slumped then. This was his failure. She looked back
again. Fear eyes or sad eyes then. Like he knew.
Crippleghost 191: Then Winnie went away to another job out east. That’s when he realized the
crystal memory was not enough.
Crippleghost 192: It would always be artificial. No matter how many hearts he got from
strangers, even as it became 1,000s.
Crippleghost 193: No more hearts from Winnie. He knew he had no place in her memory. Like
an imaginary friend. A monster in the closet.
Crippleghost 194: Knew now there was no solution. His loneliness. Only phantoms. Little reason
left to go on. Only an empty, silent home.
Crippleghost 195: It ended with 2 freaks who called themselves Old God & The Broken Heart.
RIHEBO freaks but not part of the Murder Club.
Crippleghost 196: Old God & The Broken Heart got on TV & claimed they invented the flood
crystals & could bring the whole system down.
Crippleghost 197: Claimed the black suns were part of their plan too & primed to explode. Old
God shouted, “The whole world will blow!”
Crippleghost 198: Old God was this giant fellow with a big white beard. Wore only a diaper.
Skittered around on all 4s.
Crippleghost 199: The Broken Heart was a giant heart in a spherical cage like a machine, rods

porcupining like the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Crippleghost 200: 200 thugs with guns. Black masks over deformed faces. These were RIHEBO
freaks too. The 1s that hadn’t been got yet.
Crippleghost 201: This was the news Winnie saw on TV when she came back to the city for a
visit. The last memories she recorded.
Crippleghost 202: “Everybody knows there is no connection between the black suns & flood
crystals. They weren’t invented by anyone.”
Crippleghost 203: “That’s when the world 1st saw the Black Army of Ben Crippleghost.” An
army of black hippogriffs marching from nowhere.
Crippleghost 204: The hippogriffs ate the whole army of RIHEBO freaks. Guns useless. Therewas nothing glamorous or heroic about it.
Crippleghost 205: Crippleghost went up to Old God. Climbed up his body. Arm around neck.
Twisted until a final crack.
Crippleghost 206: The hippogriffs picked the body clean of flesh. Like the predators of
nightmares. A black & terrible hunger.
Crippleghost 207: As for the Broken Heart, Crippleghost ripped apart the cage with his bare
hands. The monsters ate the heart flesh.
Crippleghost 208: Next, as the legend goes, Crippleghost wanted to take his army up the
mountain, break it open, & set the memories free.
Crippleghost 209: But that mountain was more powerful than all of them. Forests on that
mountain could swallow armies. Belly of nothing.
Crippleghost 210: Those memories would always be there. The black suns drifted toward the
mountain like Crippleghost was calling them.
Crippleghost 211: Soon they were all gone.
Crippleghost 212: People tried to analyze Crippleghost’s memories for any sign of meaning.
They found only laundry day & frozen dinner.
Crippleghost 213: Flood crystals went out of style. The sharing of memory dismissed as the

whim of an emotional generation.
Crippleghost 214: Too weak to be worth honoring. Crippleghost & his black army the final
darkness of this naïve introspection.
Crippleghost 215: The end point of giving into foolishness. Heart, passions, memory. All the
unexorcised phantoms of the childish & animal.
Crippleghost 216: But there was a small group of people who still remembered when their
memories were held by the mountain stone.
Crippleghost 217: Some, or 1 girl, remembered Crippleghost as ecstasy’s martyr. A hero with a
blood blurred face & a heart too broken.

Northrop Frye in his analysis of "Crippleghost :oR: #Crippleghost" points to the Pegasus as a
symbol of the Greek ideal, a transcendence beyond the grasp of Crippleghost, an amalgamation
of the airy & terrestrial, a lowly beast endowed w/ flight & given the task of smiting the chimera,
a monstrous mirror of the Pegasus' beautiful amalgamation
Creators OG & BH replied to Frye's criticism: "Nah it's just that 'Crippler' Chris Benoit used to
go by the ring name Kid Pegasus & we thought that was weird but kind of cool too. I meanPegasuses, kind of girly right, but also kind of badass. So, like, #Crippleghost might be into b/c
why the hell not, you know. So that's why."
OG & BH, creators of "Crippleghost :oR: #Crippleghost," when asked why they included
themselves in their own story as villains, gave the enigmatic reply, "Temporal anomaly. We're
already dead." They have, to this day, refused to explain, & "We're already dead" has become as
important to Crippleghost fandom as "Behind the couch" to Whovians.
OG, the spokesman of the 2 #Crippleghost creators, said, "Remember when Old God died?" to
explain the pov they created--experiencing something through the memory of 2 people
simultaneously--& the reporter said, "You mean when you died?" He could only reply, "Yes."
