cRIO ZigBee Networking Modules

The SEA cRIO ZigBee modules extend the National Instruments CompactRIOTM platform with wireless networking functionality and support different standards and features of the ZigBee protocol. The ZigBee module series can either support the networking between different cRIO systems, or the communication to e.g. ZigBee sensor devices.

With the ZigBee modules a personal area network (PAN) can be built up without the necessity to individually program network connec-tions or implement network protocols. The ZigBee protocol allows the direct addressing and automatic data routing to any other system in this network.

To support access under different environmental conditions several-module types support low, medium and long distance range communication.

The modules...are fast configurable with LabVIEW,•require little FPGA space,•are usable as serial line replacement in peer-to-peer networks,•work as coordinator, router or end device.•

cRIO ZigBee modules enable...networks between CompactRIO systems or external sensors,•meshed networks,•wireless data transmission to •other ZigBee serial interfaces.

Three types of modules are available:short range peer-to-peer, •short range mesh, •long range peer-to-peer •

C = CoordinatorA ZigBee module is allowed to act as a router. Data can be routed transparently to any other node with the reach of that spe-cific node.

Programming

All cRIO ZigBee modules can be programmed with National Instru-ments LabVIEWTM. Simple LabVIEW VIs allow the configuration of the network devices to address, to read and write data to a specific node or send a broadcast message to all nodes.

CompactRIO Platform

The National Instruments CompactRIO� platform for measurement and control applications bases on FPGA technology. It is a reliable, robust and compact system for real time data acquisition and control solutions. Various digital and analog sensor signals and bus systems are supported.
