Crimestoppers
Materials Pattern of human face (similar to the one shown)
Organization Student teams of two or three
Procedure Have students imagine that they are artists for the police department and they are asked to make a
drawing of known bank robber. Certain facts about the appearance are already known.
Story
It was 10 o'clock in the morning. The bank had just opened for business. A steady stream of customers was coming into the bank for various transactions. A man entered the bank, walked straight to the
teller, showed a gun to her and demanded money. He began to threaten customers, ordering them to the floor face downwards.
The nervous teller opened the drawer and gave him all the cash. The robber put the cash into a money
bag. He fired a shot into the air and left hurriedly. An onlooker said that he escaped by first running
down the street and then entering a waiting car.

Wright Family Exercise
Each time the word Wright or r.l9..b! is read, pass the object to the r.l9..b!, Each time the word left is
read, pass the object to the left.
Mrs. Wright eyed her grocery list carefully. "There won't be anything left of our budget after shopping" she said. Mr. Wright looked up from his paper and said: "That's all right my dear, if there isn't anything left, I'll be happy if the Wright family makes it through the month."
As Mr. Wright turned back to his paper he said, "Have you the right gift for Sue Wright's birthday? She's been pretty lonely since her daughter left home right after she married. Uncle Tom left her a lot of money, but she does not enjoy life right."
Son, Ed Wright, was studying in the corner of the left side of the fireplace. "I wish Sue Wright would ask me the right way to spend the money."
Mary Wright said, "she would not have much left if she did. Your vveekJy allowance is gone before you get it right in your hands."
''And I suppose you have all yours left Miss Mary," said Ed Wright.
"I don't have i't ~JI-U:ft but I have enough left to buy toys 1 like," Milry Wright said.
Just then the doorbell rang. Mary Wright ran to answer the door, and the postman left a special delivery letter for the Wright family. She took it to Father \J\fright and he opened it. Inside was a letter and four new ten dollar bills. Mr. Wright shouted, "It's from Aunt Wright saying she has left town and decided to go right to her daughter's house."
"Say, she's all right" shouted Eddie Wright.
"Bless her heart," saId Mother Wright.
"How wonderful of her," said Mary Wright.
"It makes each of us right happy to think she wrote us before she left," declared Father Wright. "At least it's all right with the Wright family."

Procedure Have students determine how many different outcomes of boys and girls are possible in a family of four children. Using Band G to represent boys and girls students will
complete the chart on the activity page and answer question about probability.

Student Activity
Family Fun (Binomial Probability) Complete the chart below to determine how many different outcomes of boys and girls are possible in a family with four children and then answer the questions that follow. Use B for boy and G for girl. Assume the first letter vvritten represents the oldest child, the second letter is the second to oldest, etc.
4 Boys 3 Boys 2 Boys 1 Boy oBoy
BBBB BBBG BBGG GGGB GGGG
1. What is lhe lotal nwnber of outcomes? How many oulcomes have at least one girl? at least 3 girls? at most 2 boys?
2. What is the probability that a family with four children will have 2 girls and 2 boys?
3. What is the probability of having no boys in a family with four children?
4. What is the probability that the oldest is a boy?
5. What is the probability that the youngest two children are girls?
6. In a family of 2 boys and 2 girls what is the probability that second from the youngest is a girl?
