Introduction

Mumbai’s population continues to grow at a rapid rate, so too has the rate of

crime.

Mumbai the financial hub of India recently became an easy target to

terrorism on

Our papers are full of news about grisly crimes committed against women, children and senior citizens.

However, certain specific crimes such as Rape, Molestation, Accidents and Vehicle Stolen are growing consistently.

Terrorism threats• On 12th March,1993 in Mumbai 13 co-ordinated

bomb explosions killed 257 people and injured 700 on 12 March 1993.

• On 11 July 2006, seven bombs exploded within 11 minutes on the Suburban Railway in Mumbai. 209 people were killed, including 22 foreigners and over 700 injured.

Terrorists from Pakistan attacked the city of Mumbai on 26th November, 2008 and killed close to 200 people.

The Taj Mahal, Trident Hotel, CST railway station and a Jewish home were attacked.

On July 13, 2011 (often referred to as 13 July or 13/7), series of three coordinated bomb explosions at the

Opera House, Zaveri Bazaar, and Dadar West left 26 dead and 130 injured.

Safety of Women• Past Incidents On April 27, 2005 a 16 year old

girl was raped in a police chowki on the Marine Drive by a constable.

• On August 13, 2002 a mentally challenged minor girl was raped in the second class compartment of the last Borivali bound train.

On New Year’s Eve,in the final minutes of the year gone by,a young woman was almost stripped and molested in

full public view by an unruly mob of nearly 70 party animals at the Gateway Of India .
