Is the most southern region of Portugal and covers 4996 km2.

high annual temperature and approximately 3000 hours of annual sunshine.

the region's main economic activity, tourism, is responsible for approximately 60% of total employment and 66% of regional GDP.

Algarve receives about 5 million tourists per year.

The University of the Algarve (UAlg) is a 30 years old higher education public institution

ten thousand students with two thousand in postgraduate programs.

750 permanent faculty members and 450 researchers, evidencing a growing commitment towards R&D and Innovation.

The main research and teaching areas are: • Earth and Marine Sciences• Health Sciences• Management and Tourism• Engineering and Technology• Social Sciences and Humanities.

UAlg’s Research Performance is ranked 2nd among Portuguese universities.

GENERAL PRESENTATION OF CRIA

The history of CRIA - Algarve Regional Center for Innovation - begins in 2003 with a partnership between the University of the Algarve and the Regional Administration Authority with the goal of promoting an institutional environment that fostered innovation and entrepreneurship.

CRIA was formally established in 2010 as part of the Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer Division of the University of the Algarve.
