Flagler Restaurant Week Kickoff Tasting Event Marineland Dolphin Adventure, Marineland

September 10th through the 18th brought Flagler County the most deli-cious days of the year. Twenty local restaurants created specialty menu items showcasing their best culinary talents. From appetizer bites to luscious entrees and decadent desserts, Flagler Restaurant Week had it all.

For the second year in a row, Fla-gler Restaurant Week hosted a kick-off tasting event at Marineland Dolphin Adventure. More than 500 locals came out and sampled mouth-watering and delectable tastes from each participating restaurant, which enticed guests to visit these restaurants on their own to enjoy Flagler Restaurant Week specials. The night ended with a spectacular dolphin show and raffle drawings.

Local foodies were encouraged to vote for their favorite participating res-taurants in ten categories throughout the week by visiting www.flaglerres-taurantweek.com. The following week,

the Chamber hosted a reception for the winners and awarded them with hand-painted plates from “In Awe of God’s Gifts by Julie Guimond.”

Congratulations to the 2015 Flagler Restaurant Week winners!

2nd Annual Flagler Restaurant week: Recap and winners announced

Many diners took part in the Flagler Restaurant Week passport contest, but there could only be one Flagler Foodie! Flagler Beach resident, Samantha Grieves and her boyfriend Jason Clark, visited 16 of the 20 restaurants in one week. How did she do it? We sat down with Samantha to find out exactly how she planned out her foodie adventure.

How did you manage to visit 16 restaurants in seven days?

“My boyfriend and I just moved here in August from New Jersey. This was the perfect way to figure out cool places to eat. We would each order something from a different restaurant for dinner each night and split the meals.”

Which restaurants offered your favorite dishes?“I absolutely loved the pressed cheese

sandwich at Kokomo’s and the prosciutto rolls from BreakAwayz. (They also have the NFL package, so my boyfriend was excited) My other favorites were the jerked chicken from Island Grille and the avocado egg rolls at Turtle Shack!”

Would you recommend others in the community to participate in restaurant week?

“Absolutely. I met a lot of cool people at all the

restaurants. We mapped out which restaurants were located close to each other and made a plan. It was easy and fun.”

Samantha was crowned the “2015 Flagler Foodie” and awarded the ultimate foodie gift basket with restaurant gift cards and kitchen essentials.

And the 2015 Flagler Foodie Award goes to...

The Flagler / Palm Coast News-Tribune | Wednesday, October 7, 2015 C3

This year, the Palm Coast Business Assistance Center (BAC) is joining forces with the Flagler County Cham-ber of Commerce's Thrive Business and Professional magazine to present the 5th Annual BAC Business Expo.

Journey to Excellence is the theme for the 2015 Palm Coast BAC Business Expo presented by Thrive magazine, set for October 30 from 8AM to 1:30PM at Hammock Beach Resort, 200 Ocean Crest Drive, Palm Coast (beachside in the Hammock). Registration is now under way for $99 for a professional development event that includes key-note speakers, breakout sessions, networking opportunities and lunch.

Jacksonville Jaguars President Mark Lamping and Andy Corty, publisher of Florida Trend magazine, will serve as the Business Expo’s keynote speakers.

For the past four years, the City of Palm Coast’s BAC has worked with Florida Small Business Development Center hosted by the University of Cen-tral Florida (SBDC) to plan and host the Business Expo. To build upon the success of the past four expos, event organizers agreed that transitioning to the Flagler County Chamber would be beneficial in increasing participation within the local business community and region.

According to Chamber President Rebecca DeLorenzo, hosting the Busi-ness Expo fits with the organization’s mission of helping local businesses thrive.

“We have attended this event for four years and are delighted to take

our organization’s involvement to the next level,” she said. “With our quar-terly magazine Thrive as the presenting sponsor, we look forward to reaching a larger audience this year and have lined up some exceptional speakers to provide attendees with an outstanding profes-sional development opportunity.”

Beau Falgout, Palm Coast’s City Administration Coordinator, shared his support for the transition: “We are proud to partner with the Flagler Chamber and Thrive to transition and grow the Busi-ness Expo event. Now in its fifth year, the Business Expo will be even better this year with the Chamber’s support.”

For more information about atten-dance or sponsorship, contact the Palm Coast BAC at 386-986-2499, Jaclyn Miklos at the Flagler Chamber (386-206-0955), or register today at http://bit.ly/bacexpo

Journey to Excellence at the 5th Annual Palm Coast

BAC Business Expo in October

Based on the success of its trip to China in 2014 and upcoming trip to Ireland, the Flagler County Chamber is planning a trip to Italy next July. The trip, a fundraiser for the Chamber, is open to both chamber members and non-members.

Thanks to Mark Gerling of Gerling Travel Group and TRAFALGAR, the nine-night, ten-day guided vacation will depart from Orlando on July 15, with arrival in Rome on July 16. Travelers will depart from Venice on July 25 and return to Orlando later that same day. The soon-to-be-priced package will include round trip airfare, deluxe accommoda-tions, nine hot buffet breakfasts, one lunch and five dinners, land excursions and round trip transport to and from Orlando International Airport.

Some highlights of this life-changing journey include stops to iconic destina-tions starting in Rome and Florence, traveling through Tuscany with visits to Pisa, Parma and Bologna and ending with three nights in magical Venice. This will afford guests with exclusive insights of Italy including an exploration of Ital-ian culinary traditions and in-depth tastes of the nation.

“We are delighted to offer another exciting travel opportunity to the com-munity,” said Rebecca DeLorenzo, chamber president. “We are confident this trip will offer travelers an afford-able way to explore Italy led by expert local guides and with time to explore and appreciate the culture and history of this beautiful country.”

The Chamber will host two free infor-mational sessions for guests to learn

more about the trip and the complete cost on October 22, 2015 at 3:30pm and 5:00pm. Light refreshments will be offered. As seating is limited, please contact Sheila at Gerling Travel Group at 386-439-6900 or [email protected] to reserve your space.
