Ageing in Australia and overseasCreative Ageing FestivalsRecently there has been growing recognition and celebration of the role seniors play in communities and the importance of engaging in the creative industries as we age. There are ageing festivals held across the world in places such as the United Kingdom, Ireland, USA and Australia, including; Luminate in Scotland, Age of Creativity in England, Bealtaine Festival in Ireland, Creative Ageing Festival in Fairfax County Virginia, Creative Ageing Festival in Bloomington Indiana, and Creative Ageing Festival along the Mid North Coast in NSW.Sing for Joy ChoirsThe ACH group funds a community project called Sing for Joy – offering choirs in Payneham, Glenelg, Seaford and Wynn Vale in South Australia. The Sing for Joy choirs aim to challenge stereotypes of ageing, offering members a way to remain active and engaged. The groups recently performed at the Adelaide Fringe Festival.NSW Creative Ageing StrategyThe NSW Government is currently in the process of developing the NSW Creative Ageing Strategy, arguing “participation in creative pursuits improves health and wellbeing, social connectedness and challenges negative perceptions of older people in the community. The Strategy will provide strategic direction to guide and support government policy and initiatives in the creative ageing space.”
