Julie works as a Program ManagerintheEducationforSustainabilityteamandSonjaisaProjectManagerintheRenewableEnergyteam.JulieandSonjawerebothparticipantsofSV’sLeadershipProgramin2010.AspartoftheprogramtheideaofSV’sOtherAnnualReportStory(OARS)wasborn.Itcameoutofmanyconversationsaboutthedifficultiesofcapturing,measuring,reportingandvaluingSV’sbehaviourchangesuccessesin an organisation where greenhouse gases andtonnesofwastedivertedfromlandfilldominatethereportinglandscape.TheSVOARScommencedasoneoffourparticipantprojectsinSV’sLeadershipProgramin2010andisnowcontinuingasaregularfeatureontheannualreportingprogram.

Yet somepeople‘hate’role-play-theyfinditdull,artificial,embarrassing,evenexposing.Inmyexperiencerole-playscanberelevant,fun,engagingandmoving.Buttheirsuccessdependsoncreatinganauthenticplayspacewhichvalueswarmupandspontaneity.Thisexperientialworkshopwillengageparticipantsinactionmethods,demonstrateapproachestoroleplayandintroduceunderlyingprinciples.

My vocation is land and water management to realise sustainable communities based on one-earth.Over40yearstheneedtohusbandour land has grown as we find more ways toexploiteverdiminishingresources.Manyways have been tried to bring about lasting change;themostsuccessfulhavebeenthosewhichempowerpeopletotakecontroloftheir destiny though building community competencyandcapacityandtheuseofmanywaystoreachagreedgoals.Inshort,usingchangetosucceed.Mymissioninthepast 25yearshasbeentodevelopwaysandmeansto do this. Effective engagement is one way providedthefacilitatorisreadyasthejourneyfollowsmanypathwaysandchallengesthathavenotbeenfacedbefore.SeveralmajorregionallybasedprojectsIhavebeeninvolvedwithasafacilitatorinthepast5yearshaveshednewlightontoprinciplesandpracticesthat really work.
