METHOD

01. Stick all the toilet paper rolls together with a hot-melt glue gun. Six rolls in width by 4 rolls in height.

02. Take the cardboard box, this will form the base and sides for the little house. The piece of cardboard should be at least 18x27 cm in size so all rolls end up fitting into the Advent calendar house.

03. From the card, cut out a roof of any chosen pitch as well as two roof sides. If you want the roof to have an overhang, allow about an extra 2 cm on each side and at the front. Duplicate the back of the roof for the front.

04. Glue the four roof parts (1 rear wall, 2 side roofs, 1 front wall) together with hot-melt adhesive and let it set for about 1-2 hours.

05. Paint the outside of the house with Christmas colours and insert the rolls.

06. Type in the numbers from 1 to 24 on the PC, leaving sufficient space in between.

07. Print off the numbers and cut them out in circles (diameter 4.5 cm) so they close off the opening of the toilet roll. For a better hold, stick the numbers on a piece of cardboard first and then cut them out.

08. Now place the trinkets/jokes in each of the rolls.

09. Seal the roll with the numbers by dabbing a thin layer of hot-melt glue on the top and bottom of the roll opening.

10. For even more Christmas spirit, decorate the homemade Advent calendar with a string of fairy lights.
