1. OpentheCADfilethatyouhopetoimportinREVIT.Becertainthatthelayersyouwanttoseeareturnedon.Iftheyareofftheywillnotbevisiblewhenthefileislinked.Savefile.
2. SwitchtoREVIT.Inthe“ProjectBrowser”menuselectthesiteviewunderthefloorplanoption.Weworkbeworkinginthisviewfortheremainderoftheprocess.
4. The“Insert”menuwillhaveoptionsto“linkCAD”and“ImportCAD.”WhileeitherwillbringtheCADfileintoREVIT“ImportCAD”istheoptionwewillchose.Leftclickon“ImportCAD.”
3. Leftclickonthe“Insert”tabintheMenu.
CreatingTopographyinREVITfromanAutoCADfile.AbstrAct: Mapagroundplanein2-dimensionsinAutoCADandimportfiledirectlyintoREVITthentransition2-dimensionalgroundplaneinto3-dimensionaltopography.Explanationalsoappliestoeditingexistingtopography.
5. TheCADfileshouldloadandbevisibleonscreen.
6. Selectthe“MassingandSite”tabintheMenu.Allworkwithtopowillbedoneinthistab.
8. Leftclick“CreatefromImport”Icon.ThiswilldropdownaMenuwithtwooptions.
9. Leftclick“SelectImportInstance,”thefirstchoice.
7. Leftclick“Toposurface”iconinMenu.Thiswillshowanewtoolsetformanipulatingtopography.
10. LeftclicktheimportedCADfilewhichcontainsthetopography.Thisisextremelyim-portant.Nothingwillchangeonscreenuntiltheimportischosen.
14. Selectallthepointsofacontourline.Byholdingcontrolyouareabletoaddpointstotheselectedgroup.
11. WhentheimportischosenamenuwillappearonscreendisplayingallofthelayerscontainedintheAutoCADfile.Selectonlythelayersthatrelatetothetopography,specificallythecontours.
13. Theimagewillchangedisplayingeverypointofthecontours.Currentlyallcontoursaresettooneelevation.Thenextstepswillbeassigningthemtheirproperelevations.
12. Leftclick“okay.”(NOTE:ifelevationsareassignedtoeachcontourthefollowingstepsarenotnecessary)
16. Whenthecontoursareproperlysetleftclickthe“FinishSurface”iconinthemenubar.
15. Whenthepointsareselectedchangetheelevationintheboxinthetoplefttode-siredelevation.
16. Thatshouldcompleteyourtopographysurface.Atanypointitcanbeeditedbyleftclicking“Toposurface”andusingthemodifyarrow
