Tagged pages can show in a list of links, return the latest news with photo, description, and link to the article, or display specific content within a page. An empty tag folder is created as part of your website set-up. In order to add tags to a page, they must first be created in your tag folder in the Tagging Site Administration area. Tagging Pages

Description of Tagging Tagging is used in AEM to generate dynamic content in web pages. Tagged pages can show in a list of

links, return the latest news with photo, description, and link to the article, or display specific content

within a page. An empty tag folder is created as part of your website set-up. In order to add tags to a

page, they must first be created in your tag folder in the Tagging Site Administration area.

How to Create Tags Tags are created in the Tagging Site Administration area of AEM.

1. In the Site Administration, click the Tagging icon.

2. In the left window pane of the Tagging Site Administration, expand the Tags folder.

3. Highlight your website’s tag folder by clicking it. In this example the Aem Training tag folder is

highlighted. All of the created tags display in the right window pane.

In the window pane, existing tags are displayed with column data.

Title Title of the tag. Used to identify tags in page properties. Can be edited.

Name Used by the system. Cannot be edited once created.

Description Used to provide more information regarding a tag.

TagID System ID used for tags. Shows location in AEM for tags as part of tag hierarchy.

Published Shows when tag was activated for use.

Modified Shows last modified information for tag.

4. To create a new tag, in the right window pane, in the toolbar click New.

5. Enter data for the tag in the dialog fields.

Data would look similar.

Please note: The Name field cannot be changed once a tag is created. If this field is created with

an error, the tag will need to be recreated. Additionally, words must be singular or separated

with a dash. Spaces between words are not supported and best practices dictates no more than

two words should be used for the Name of a tag. Use the description field to provide added

details if necessary.

6. Click Create to save the tag data. It will look similar to this.

There are now tags that can be used in your website tag folder. Create tags as necessary. You can also

create child tags if you have a tag hierarchy you need to implement. Simply highlight the parent tag in

the left window pane and create child tags in the right window pane by clicking “New”, exactly as

outlined in the steps above.

How to Tag Pages Tags can be added to pages in two ways. One, in the Site Administration a page’s properties can be

accessed and tags added. The second, while using the Toolkit you can access page properties and add

tags.

Adding Tags in Site Administration

1. In the Site Administration, right highlight the page.

2. Right click and select Properties.

3. The following dialog appears.

4. In the Tags/Keywords field, use the down arrow to access your site’s tags.

5. Scroll to find the tag to use. Click the tag to add it.

The tag is added to the page’s properties. Add additional tags if needed.

6. Click inside the properties dialog box to close the tags pop-up.

7. Click OK to save.

Add a Tag to a Page from the Toolkit After creating a tag in the tag site administration, you can add tags directly to pages while they are in

edit mode. Then, you can use components on other pages to render dynamic content such as links list of

child pages of the site, news lists, etc. for components that have tag configuration capability.

Add Tags Using the Toolkit

1. In edit mode on a page, find the Toolkit. Click the second tab that looks like a globe on a page.

2. Click Page Properties.

The following dialog appears.
