Creating Opportunities for Commerce and Community
NOV/DEC 2019 A Message from the Executive Director
E-Newsletter
Dear Members, When I accepted the position of heading up our Chamber back in 2006, I took on a number of challenges associated with the job. The most daunting of these was trying to help our smaller members find a suitable healthcare program. As the years have passed this has continued to be a frustrating problem with no solution. A chance conversation with Tim Jeziorski of Richards Insurance at a Business After Hours event nine months ago has changed that. With Tim’s assistance we entered into a contract with Network Health, a Wisconsin based health provider.
I am thrilled to announce that we now have a high-quality and cost-effective health plan solution! The partnership provides our members with discounted premium rates on Network Health Assure level-funded or fully insured plans. This health plan will be a significant aid in retaining talented employees. Assure is a level-funded plan that is ideal for small businesses (from 2 to 100 employees) that want the security of a fully insured plan with the financial advantages of a self-insured plan. This means employers can benefit from predictable, fixed monthly rates of a fully insured plan but only pay for the health care the employees receive. Providing affordable health insurance to employees can be a complicated process, but it doesn’t have to be. With insurance renewal season right around the corner you need to act now! Plan on attending the free luncheon seminar at noon on November 7
th to learn about this new program. It will
take place in the Police Training Room at City Hall; advance registration is required. Please call Lisa at our office to sign up 262-338-2666. Our Annual Dinner and Business of the Year Awards Ceremony will be held on November 6
th at the
Prairie Center. We love this event because it gives us the opportunity to celebrate business excellence. This year we have a record number of attendees and are sold out. Congratulations to all the nominees for setting the gold standard in our community. Looking for an adventure? Consider our Chamber Tour to Egypt this coming March 20
th. Visiting
Cairo, the Sphinx and Pyramids plus four days cruising the Nile will be the trip of a lifetime. Contact me for more information and to sign up. Best wishes to you and yours for the coming holiday season,
Craig

Scandinavia Tour 2019
This year the Chamber Trip was to Scandinavia. Travelers
toured Denmark, Sweden & Norway. The above photo
shows the group that was on the tour with us.
They left on October 3rd for the 14 day trip. The tour started
in Copenhagen, Denmark. They then traveled to Vaxjo and
Stockholm, Sweden. Then it was on to Oslo, Norway via a
high speed train. They traveled through the fjord region to
Flam and took the Flam railway to the plateau of Myrdal.
Next they traveled by a troll car which climbed the
Briksdal Glacier to Leon, Norway. The tour continued on to
Bergen Norway where some departed back home and
others took the extension to Reykjavik, Iceland for 3 days.

Class of 2020
Retreat
Environment Day
The WBA Chamber of Commerce Leadership program began with a two-day Retreat where the class of future leaders got to meet one another and do some team building activities. Both days included an awesome leadership speaker; Ken Collins, a Leadership Coach at Ken Collins Coaching, LLC in West Bend and, Tim Dehring, Captain of Operations for the West Bend Police Department and 2009 Alumni Graduate of our program. Our group was also introduced to and paired with local Non-Profit Agencies to assist them on an 8-month project.
Quote from Retreat: “It is amazing how close a group of strangers can be after two days. It feels like
we’ve known each other for a while.”
Environment Day in October was filled with many eye-opening facts about how our City handles matters of the environment. Jeremy Baerenwald gave us a through tour of the Waste Water Treatment Plant that left us all more conscious about what we flush and allow to go down the drain. We then visited American Metal and Paper Recycling. Dennis Fechter showed us how metals, plastic, cardboard, and paper are collected and disposed of in a safe, environmentally friendly way. We enjoyed lunch in the beautiful Lac Lawrann Conservancy Maurin Center where Conservation Supervisor, Courtney Cox, and Gary Britton, Friends of Lac Lawrann Conservancy Volunteers, en-lightened us on the history of and opportunities to preserve this beautiful land. We also had a wonderful hike through the conservancy and were in awe of the beauty that surrounded us in this free-to-the-public City Park. Jay Shambeau, our City Administrator and interim Park and Rec. Director, met us at Riverside Park where we learned about all that the West Bend Parks have to offer. We ended the day by playing a friendly game of Disc Golf.
