Creating District Curriculum in CIITS

TERMINOLOGY

Curriculum– a syllabus covering an ENTIRE course (e.g., year or semester) that is

relevant to one subject and grade level

Curricular Unit – a term that is used to represent how the school year is broken up

This can differ by school type and/or subject area.• For example: Science grades K-5 may divide the school year in to

six week cycles, while HS Math courses may segment the year into Semesters.

Instructional Unit – divides the Curricular Unit into smaller topics

Lesson Plan – unit of instruction that addresses a theme/topic related to the

TERMINOLOGY

Resource– a material to support instruction

• a link to video or an educational website• a PowerPoint presentation• a handout for students

Assessment– a tool to be used to measure learning (rubric, unit test, quiz)– this is NOT a benchmark assessment or a classroom assessment

created in the Assessment Admin module

DEFINING PROPERTIES

For each material type, the first step is to Define Properties.

ALIGNING STANDARDS

Identify the standards addressed by the material you are creating.

ADDING CONTENTFor most material types there are 3 options for creating content (choose one):

• District Template (free-form text)• File Attachment• URL Link

LINK RELATED MATERIALMaterials can be linked to each other. You may wish to create resources first so they will be available when creating “higher level” materials

ORGANIZERSTagging materials by selecting the appropriate organizers will allow users to find your material through the advanced search option.
