Expected Contribution(Clinician)
Activities that are assumed to be part of the Clinical base salary responsibilities. Example: the same level of effort voluntary Clinical faculty at other hospitals are expected to contribute as part of their base salary.
A. Teaching directly related to patient care (ward attending, clinic, OR, etc.) B. Occasionally round with medical students or residents in the hospital (< 50 days/year)C. Attending grand rounds D. Teach an occasional lecture or seminar to medical students or residents (< 12 hours / year)E. Occasionally mentor a medical student or resident in a clinic (< 50 days /year)F. Clinical Component
GME Effort Graduate Medical Education: Effort associated with supervision and guidance of Residents. This effort is funded by the Consortium.
Annually assigned at the Faculty level by the Dean for Academic Affairs, meeting with the Chair of the Faculty Member's Assignment. Faculty member must be identified as "Key Faculty" in the Residency Program.
UME Effort Undergraduate Medical Education: PrepTime plus time spent teaching Undergraduate SOM Students.

Other Indirect Education Graduate Research Education: Effort associated with the education of students in the PhD in Biomedical Science, the MPH, and MCTR programs.
Annually assigned at the Faculty level by the Dean for Academic Affairs, meeting with the Faculty Member's Chair.Dr. Koeppen is reviewing with the Education Council the appropriate % allocations for GRE effort.
Education Component
Extramural Funding Grants or other private research funding sources.
Cost Share Institutionally approved Cost Share. In defining total Research Salary, institutionally funded Cost Share is considered equivalent to extramural grant funding.

Defined Administrative roles with leadership responsibilities in the School of Medicine.

SOM Committee Work Participation on SOM Committees deemed to require significant effort (greater than 10%) and representing effort above and beyond what is considered Academic Citizenship.

Outside contracts (not Grants) and Endowments & Gifts are included in this category.
Administration Component
Transition Transition funds are used to “bridge” funding . Start up funds would be included for a period of time allowing faculty to build practice and/or secure grants to support salary. Similarly, if grant funding is lost and the Chair determines that it is in the best interest of the institution that the research activity be continued while new grant funds are being secured, the salary could be funded under Transition.
Start Up Packages
Excellence Transition to Excellence funds are used to promote exceptional activities that in the Chair's judgment will greatly enhance the SOM and UCHC's mission.
Examples:-Educational, Academic Pursuits: e.g. Pres. Of American Society of X or key part in National/International Conference.-Research, Project Oriented Pursuits: e.g. Retraining to handle a specific teaching or research area-Clinical, Project Oriented Pursuits: e.g. Training to do robotic surgery

Next Steps for FY2011
• Based on concrete experience of using the report during FY10 and early FY11, continue to collect feedback on needed enhancements. How to determine participants?
• Update 10% to be credited for SOM Committee work.• Special attention needed on the Activity Report…what measures are
useful and meaningful to faculty and Chairs?• School of Dental roll out planning.• Document requirements for access to reports by individual faculty
members.• Continue working with Dr. Jacob and Dr. Simon one data needed for
annual reviews, etc.• Other thoughts?
