Principal’s Note

Welcome to another addition of our newsletter. I hope

you are all keeping well and warm in this inclement

weather.

We provide important updates in our newsletter and it

is one of our main forms of communication. While I

understand our lives our busy and there is quite a bit of

reading, we hope you are taking some time out to keep

yourself abreast of the updates and events in our school.

Our students love sharing their photos and news with

you and are always very excited when they feature in

one of the additions of our fortnightly newsletters.

COVID-19 – A REMINDER TO ALL

FAMILIES

As you are aware there have been changes to the way

schools are operating for the start of this term. On

behalf of everyone at Estella Public School, I would like

to thank you all for your ongoing support and

understanding as we moved into COVID-19 Level 2

restrictions, as per the advice of the NSW Department

of Health and the NSW Department of Education.

The Department has devised a 4-level system for

COVID-safe school operations and we were very

fortunate that under current operating Level 2

restrictions, this term saw all Estella Public School

students resume face-to-face learning on site. An email

was sent out to all our parents at the start of the

term outlining how these restrictions will impact on

the day to day running of the school. If you did not

receive this email or would like an additional copy

please contact the School Administration Office. There

are some points I would like to reiterate;

• All students are expected to be at school

unless they have even the mildest of

COVID-19 Symptoms.

• Any student or staff member displaying

any COVID-19 symptoms will be sent

home and should not return until they

have received a negative test result and

are symptom-free.

• In circumstances where children have

other medical reasons for recurrent

symptoms a letter from their GP is

sufficient to negate the requirement for a

negative COVID-19 test.

There will be times when our administration staff call

you to come and collect your child from school. We

understand that this may cause disruption to work and

apologise for any inconvenience caused. Please be

mindful that our staff are doing what is asked of them

and are following COVID-19 guidelines as per the advice

of the NSW Department of Health and the NSW

Department of Education. All current advice regarding

COVID-19 restrictions in schools can be found on the

Department of Education website using the following

link:

https://education.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/advice-for-

families/schools-outside-of-greater-sydney1

If your child is returning to school from illness with

COVID-19 symptoms they are required to report to the

office before entering the playground or classrooms.

You must supply evidence of either the negative COVID-

19 test or a medical certificate.

Kindergarten Enrolments

We are currently taking Kindergarten Enrolments for

2022. If you are aware of any families wishing to send

their children to Estella Public School next year please

ask them to contact the front office so they can be

included in the mailing list. This way they won’t miss out

on information relating to our Kindergarten Transition

Program and won’t miss any upcoming events.

Next Wednesday, 11th August, we are holding an

evening for perspective Kindergarten Parents. This has

been made possible with a comprehensive COVID-19

Safety Plan and as such, only one parent from each

family is invited to attend; a mask must be worn;

social distancing will be ensured and check in using

the QR code is required. People must not attend if

you have even the mildest COVID-19 or flu-like

symptoms.

Year 1 to Year 6 Enrolments for 2022

We are currently fielding a number of enquiries for 2022.

If you are aware of any families wishing to send their

children to Estella Public School next year please ask

them to contact the front office so they can be included

in the mailing list. Anticipated enrolment figures are also

used to calculate staffing and funding and to assist in

the future planning for the 2022 year. It is important that

we obtain these figures as soon as possible so we can

provide the best possible outcomes for our students.

Education Week

Last week we celebrated NSW Public Education, our

school and student achievements. Thank you to all the

parents who passed on positive feedback about our

display boards which were located in the Wagga Wagga

Marketplace. It was such a great representation of

student learning and a look back at the amazing journey

we have undertaken since our opening at the beginning

of the year.

Jeans 4 Genes Day

Today, Estella Public School supported Jeans 4 Genes

Day. Jeans 4 Genes Day is a nationwide fundraising

initiative held in Australia each year. Their mission is to

support families and children with birth defects or

incurable genetic diseases. Donations help support

scientists at Children’s Medical Research Institute work

towards treatments and gene therapy to find cures for

previously incurable genetic diseases. 1 in 20 children

face a birth defect or genetic disease and this crucial

fundraiser helps support the lives of so many. Thank you

for your donations and supporting our school to

support others.

Library

Mrs Smith has been working incredibly hard setting up

our library, STEM, lunchtime clubs and Book Week.

Many of our books have now been accessioned,

complete with barcoding and their spine label and are

ready for covering. If your able support us with book

covering can you please come to the front office on a

Wednesday, Thursday or Friday and Mrs Smith will

borrow the books out to you and supply you with

contact. All books can be returned to the front office

where they will be sanitised prior to their return to the

library. Thank you so much for your ongoing support

and help.

Enjoy your weekend and stay warm!

From the School Counsellor

Often in my work I talk to parents about the importance

of play. Play is central to a young person’s learning and

development. When children play, it gives them lots of

different ways to learn and provides them with different

sensory, social and cognitive experiences. Play builds

connections in the brain and allows children to extend

their learning.

Play also helps your

child:

• build

confidence

• feel loved,

happy and

safe

• develop social

skills, language and communication

• learn about caring for others and the

environment

• develop fine and gross motor skills

• improve their physical and emotional health

Play changes as children develop. For younger children,

play should allow children to explore new activities and

materials. Play might consist of unstructured time to

explore new materials or environments, an organised

sports activity, creating with craft, baking a cake, or it

Page 5: Crazy Hair Day - estella-p.schools.nsw.gov.au

Estella Public School

Page 5

might simply be time to be creative with toys. For older

children it is more about building on or extending those

interests that they already have, or developing some

new life skills.

Most

importantly,

play isn’t just

important for

children. It is

also important

for adults. We

all need some

time doing

something we love to ensure that our mental health is

at its best. Try to get out and do something that you

love too.

Have a great week.

P&C News

Thermomix Raffle

Our Thermomix raffle was drawn on 30-7-21.

Congratulations to Heather Ip (ticket no 136) who was

the winner. We would like to thank everyone that

bought a ticket and supported the P&C for this raffle.

Father’s Day

The P&C will be running a gift stall for Father’s Day at

the school this year. Please keep an eye out for more

information about this when it is available.

Next P&C Meeting

Our next P&C meeting will be held at the school on

Tuesday 10 August. Everyone is welcome to attend our

meetings and besides being a great opportunity to get

involved and share your ideas, Tracy Delaney also

provides a Principle’s report where you can receive a

detailed update on what is happening in the school and

progress on topics such as uniforms and school

branding. We hope to see as many of you as possible.

If there are any issues, concerns or questions you have

for the P&C, please contact me on 0408011322 or any

other member of the P&C team.

News from the Library

It has been a very busy couple of weeks in the Library.

Clubs have been running Wednesday to Friday for

students to come and learn new skills. Our LEGO club

is becoming popular with students attempting the

weekly challenge. I was pleased to see Kindergarten

students attend drawing club. They did a fantastic job

of drawing Bluey! During Code Club we have learnt to

set up Scratch and create an algorithm. As we learn

more about Scratch and develop our skills with coding

we will be able to use our robots and microbits.

I hope you have all been thinking about your book

parade costumes! There is still plenty of time to get

organised and save some money to purchase books at

the book fair. I have some amazing learning

opportunities organised for the students, with some

special guests preparing video recordings for us to

listen to stories during the week. The book fair will be

open in the Library from Wednesday-Friday, before

school and during the breaks.

If you are able to help out at all with book covering

please contact the school. I appreciate any help I can

get! Thank you for your continuing support of the

Library!

Regards,

Mrs Smith.
