NEWS RELEASE of 21 February 2012 MIPIM 2012: The Bordeaux Decade in the Spotlight Bordeaux Urban Community has attended the MIPIM for 12 years now and will be presenting two major urban projects this year: Bordeaux Euratlantique and Bastide Niel. These operations are part of a new cycle of economic and urban change in the metropolitan area and provide further evidence that this really is the “Bordeaux Decade”. With such major projects as completion of the high-speed rail line between Paris and Bordeaux (2 hour journey time by 2017), construction of Bordeaux Euratlantique, development of the tram network (almost 80km long by 2017), the Campus of Excellence operation and such ambitious urban projects as “50,000 homes along public transport routes” or the protection of the natural balance that is also a part of the city’s identity… Must-see events on the Bordeaux Metropole stand . Bordeaux Euratlantique - Wednesday 7 March at 11am with TVK agency, winners of the urban planning competition for the “Garonne Eiffel” project and Philippe Courtois, Managing Director of the Bordeaux Atlantique Public Development Agency - Thursday 8 March at 11am with Bernard Reichen from Reichen et Robert & Associés, winners of the urban planning competition for the Bordeaux “Saint- Jean Belcier” district and Philippe Courtois Bordeaux Euratlantique is one of the major French urban projects at present and links in with the arrival of the high-speed rail line in Bordeaux. In the southern part of the city, on both sides of the Garonne, this project covers an area of 738 hectares around Saint-Jean Railway Station. Homes for almost 30,000 new inhabitants are set to be created there, plus 25,000 to 30,000 new jobs, 40,000m² shop space, 400,000m² of offices and 50 hectares of parks and gardens. The first operations are scheduled for 2015. . Bastide Niel - Wednesday 7 March at 5.30pm with Winy Maas from the Dutch agency MVRDV The Bastide Niel development zone is near Bordeaux city centre and offers huge development potential with its 30 hectares of former barracks and rail marshalling yards. 3,000 homes will be built here, of which 55% social housing, along with 25,000m² of office space, 30,000m² of shops and 15,000m² of production activities. Definition of the urban project was headed by Dutch agency MVRDV. Construction scheduled for 2012. .
