A Unique Technology

• The Air Coupling technology

guaranties:

– Robust card as there is no wired

connection

between the chip and the antenna

– Cost advantage as the production

yield is higher

– More flexible production capacity as

Air Coupling uses standard

embedding equipment

– No ESD issue reported

• SPS and CPI Card Group provides a Dual Interface card based on Air

Coupling technology

• The module has a small antenna on the back of the contact plate

• The inlay has two connected antenna coils

Lessons Learned

• Do not underestimate the project lead time

• Do not underestimate the role of project management

• Involve all parties at the earliest stage

• Testing in various infrastructures is key

• Payment schemes representatives are also key to an easy migration

• Good relation with the processor with also a key to success


Conclusion

• Project was a perfect demonstration of a very good working relationship

between multiple parties

• Implementation combination was the most challenging

– could not have been possible without these relationships

• Canadian experience can be easily duplicated for the U.S. market

• CPI is ready for volume product out of its two U.S. facilities
