February 29, 2016 1200 Park Avenue Emeryville, California 94608 Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing regarding your 2016 Undergraduate Program Internship opportunity. I would love to come work at Pixar because Pixar has made some of the most emotionally satisfying and powerful movies I have ever seen. After I saw Toy Story for the first time as a child, I watched it almost every day for a month because I had such a strong connection to the story being told – Toy Story showed me every day could be an adventure. I want to give audiences that same powerful experience that I had when I was young. I’m applying to your internship as a Technical Director, because I found my passion to be in lighting. Watching Pixar movies gave me a profound appreciation for how much emotion lighting can give to a scene, and I want to make lighting environments that give scenes in a movie that subliminal, hearttouching emotional element that I always experience while watching a Pixar film. When I saw Lou Romano’s work on Up in 2009, I decided to push my work and lighting to reflect the quality of his work. I’m currently studying Computer Animation and Ringling College of Art and Design. The past three years have given me a strong background as a CG generalist, and a solid understanding of the entire animation pipeline. The Ringling Computer Animation major has given me a strong knowledge in everything from traditional draftsmanship and animation to computer modeling, sculpting, lighting and animation. I maintain a steady, confident pace in all my work, and strive to achieve excellence and proficiency in every section of the animation pipeline, lighting in particular. I believe my background as a generalist and indepth understanding of the pipeline adds to my utility as a Technical Director, allowing me to solve whatever technical problems come up while putting a scene together, and also let me compose lighting environments around the animation happening all around a scene. Aside from proficiency in Maya, I also have an intimate understanding of Nuke, Renderman, zBrush, and 3DCoat. I look forward to speaking with you soon, but in the meantime, my attached resume and Vimeo can give you a more indepth understanding of the work I’ve completed, and what I can bring to Pixar. I hope you consider me as strong of an asset to your company as I consider myself. It would be an honor and a onceinalifetime opportunity to work with your team and some of the best creative minds in animation. Sincerely, Chris Phelps

  Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing regarding your 2016 Undergraduate Program Internship opportunity. I would
