E-NEWS February 2013 Issue 73 Providing opportunities for young Canadians to learn and use French Emma Drake CPF PEI French Student Excellence Awards For the 13th year Canadian Parents for French-PEI is sponsoring five French Student Excellence Awards. This year we were able to add two more awards for seven student winners! These awards are intended to encourage and reward students who take initiative in their French-language education. The awards are in the form of a week with the Encounters With Canada Program. EWC is a once- in-a-lifetime experience for Canadian teens to meet young people from across the country. They spend a week in our nation’s capital, take part in exciting adventures, explore future career options, learn more about our country, and share their hopes and dreams – all through exclusive hands-on workshops, presentations and excursions. EWC has been offering rich and diverse programs for 31 years. Over 92,000 youth have already lived the “EWC Experience.” https://www.ewc-rdc.ca Through the CPF PEI French Student Excellence Award, winners receive a fully paid registration fee. The winners can choose to attend any week in the winter session (January to April). Although scholastic ability is of importance, factors such as character, community involvement, qualities of leadership and interest in becoming bilingual are carefully considered. Distinction, whether in intellect or character or a combination of these, is the most essential requirement. Only one student per school can be selected from any one particular school. Prizes are also divided amongst these categories: Core, Immersion and Francophone. CPF volunteers jury the submissions and choose the recipients based on the content and the criteria. For a full list of this year’s recipients see page two of this newsletter. For recipients from other years , visit our web site at www.cpfpei.pe.ca/programs . Thank you to all who entered the competition and to the volunteers who had the difficult task of selecting the recipients. Kelsey O’Connor Chandler Acorn
