CPE SPEAKING PART 3
PROMPT CARD
Are there more benefits or drawbacks to living in a city nowadays?
• Jobs
• Transport
• Accommodation
• accommodation1. City dwellers are obliged to cram in minuscule
flats- paying for exorbitant rents.2. Restricted space in flats obstructs privacy
between tenants.3. Maintenance expenses may be shared by tenants4. All tenants must withstand and tolerate high
levels of noise from next-door neighbours at any time .
• transport1. Commuters must travel back and forth to workplaces
covering huge distances –wasting a great deal of precious leisure.
2. Citizens confront traffic congestion at peak hours-it wrecks their nerves and the waste of excessive petrol/oil burns a hole in their pockets.
3. Air and noise pollution levels are both on the rise- triggering breathing problems for vulnerable social groups.
4. Constant consumption of natural resources, such as oil and petrol contribute to multinational companies’ and car dealers’ profitability.
5. The infrastructure of big cities is better constructed enabling city drivers to test drive and flaunt their luxurious vehicles.
• jobs1. Living in big cities does really open up the doors to more
job prospects, but, not necessarily lowering high rates of unemployment.
2. A plethora of job options to choose from , fulfilling any job dream young people may have after completing their studies.
3. Social and business circles are growing ,but, quasi non- existent social security and bonuses generate insecurity , fear of job losses and even less productivity from the employees’ part that leads to isolation, social seclusion and , by extension, minimal economic growth for the community ,the area, the state.
