Papermate Liquid Paper The Correction Challenge Spelled

A Race to Remember UKs Top Engineering University Opens its First International Campus in Malaysia

Papermate, the leading brand in writing instruments and correction products launched the Papermate Liquid Paper The Correction Challenge with a simple goal to use a challenging online game as a platform for young Malaysians to have fun with spelling while putting themselves in the running to win the much-coveted Apple iPad 2.

The Challenge successfully reached out to 10,280 participants and it was played more than 40,000 times. Following weeks of intense battling over the finer points of spelling, the final winners were recently announced. Sern Wei Tze of Multimedia College (MMU) and Amril Radzman bin Amrahi from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) both came out winners and walked away with an iPad 2 each for their achievements. Kin Sum from Multimedia College (MMU), Vincent Lee Hsueh Wei from Taylors College and Khor Then Kiang from Kolej Damansara Utama (KDU) on the other hand, received an iPod Touch each.

A spokesperson from Papermate, while speaking about the contest, said that spelling requires consistent practice. Use it or lose it, thats how spelling is he added. Even if you make spelling mistakes, you can be sure that the Papermate Liquid Paper Dryline Ultra Correction Tape is always there for you. It is fast and neat when it comes to correcting errors, and to top it off, its eco-friendly characteristics help sustain and protect the environment!

To keep the momentum going and spellers on their toes, Papermate also held Lucky Draws daily to give away Papermate Liquid Paper Dryline Ultra Correction Tape to its fans at its Facebook fanpage during the contest period.

RUSH a la the Amazing Race or Explorace, a competition where participants from the various colleges are placed on an island where to compete in various tasks was held recently. Participants had to endure all sorts of challenges from swimming to running, being buried under the hot beach sand, consuming a myriad of healthy, antioxidant-rich foods although taste might have been out of the equation, kayaking and even barefoot trekking.

As an event, it has come a long way from local venues like Langkawi and Malacca to the Gold Coast in Australia. But all this while, the participants have been from within HELP University College only, the organizer of this event. But HELP brought it up a notch: it has become a competition between private institutions of higher learning otherwise known as the IPTS RUSH 2011. Teams that competed were SEGI University College, SUNWAY University, TAR College, Taylors University, UCTI College, Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR)

It was an idea brought forward by Cmdr Anthonysamy Silvarajoo, Director of the Department of Student Affairs (DSA), HELP University College; having been to Gold Coast for RUSH 2010.

But to the participants, no race is great enough to forgo having fun and making friends. Most of the students who took part became fast friends.

For Rezza Coebar, Chin Sze Jet and Leong Wen Kang of HELP Team 1, winning the IPTS RUSH 2011 seems a bit surreal. Rezza confessed that almost throughout the race, they were convinced that UNITEN would grab the first prize. We just shoved everything in the bag, according to Wen Kang, and this might have won them the race.

The University of Southampton has announced its first international campus in EduCity@Iskandar, South Johor, is now open for enrolment.

LIMKOKWING University-Spice Global Group MOU To Foster Academic Collaboration

Catharsis, Purging of Emotions by Sunway ADTP students

A signing MoU signaling a new era of academic and cultural exchanges ceremony was held between LimKokWing University of Creative Technology and the Dayawati Modi Academy. The collaboration came about following a series of high profile visits early this year to LimKokWing University by Dr. Modi and Mr. Nanani respectively. The signing ceremony was witnessed by the University Founder President Tan Sri Dato Sri Dr. Lim Kok Wing and Mr. Prakash Nanani, President of the Spice Global Group. Dr. Bhupendra Kumar Modi signed the MoU on behalf of his Group, while Vice President Dato Fajura Juffa bte Mustapa Kamal represented LimKokWing University. On his speech, Dr. Modi said the youths are going to change the world and this is a very exciting thing, an exciting time, an exciting era, an era that the youths are going beyond religion, beyond nationalities, to create a global community, a global family which is much stronger than any other community.

Limkokwing will focus on six industry-driven programmes Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Fashion & Retailing, Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons) in Mobile Computing, Diploma in Graphic Design Technology, Diploma in Interactive & Multimedia Design, Diploma in Animation & Multimedia Design and Diploma in Fashion & Retailing Design. These courses are designed to boost the students chances of securing high income careers when they graduate as digital professionals. According to Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing, the University will introduce the latest digital technology and creativity programmes in India and then move on to post-graduate and PhD programmes later on.

It was a full house and uproar as laughter filled the auditorium as Sunway ADTP students from the class of THEA 1000 purged their emotions during the production of Catharsis, Purging of Emotions in 5 short unique, entertaining and witty plays. The production held at Sunway University started with a play titled The Unruly Bank Customer, written and directed by Danny Voon Seng Hong. Danny wanted to create a sense of familiarity to everyone by placing an unruly bank customer with a thick Malaysian accent against a prim and proper service banker. The tendency for both of them to misunderstand each other created a chaos. The remaining plays, covering a melodramatic range of emotions from humor to serious, were titled, My Sunshine Away, Language Barrier, Thank God its... and Celinederella. Tan You Ken and Daryl Premkumar said, It was a challenge directing a more serious play as it was important to evoke an emotional side to the audience. The depth of the story was great and we were hoping the audience would understand the storyline. Catharsis, a Purging of Emotions is a collaborative effort of all the students of THEA 1000 who come from various majors in the ADTP such as Business, Mass Communication, Engineering and Aviation. Students invested their time, energy and skills into making this production a huge success. Apart from the original scripts, directing and starring in this production, they were responsible for publicising, producing, sound engineering, stage management and other essential areas.

    FACE IN THE FRAME

Say what you want about Asha Gill, but most, if not many will agree to one thing she is the epitomy of the modern, confident woman. Its not hard to see why she is amazingly beautiful, she's done the things most women wish to have done, and in the

    Asha Gill

Describe your schooling and teen life? Lets just say I was a rebel student...had my fair share of time in detention and outside the headmasters office!!! :) How was life as a kid in Seremban?Idyllic, lovely, surrounded by lots of space and trees and cousins and laughter. Did being of mixed parentage stand you out in a way you singled out or picked on? I got racist attitude in the UK, had some awful experiences in London as an adult, with Nazi gangs spitting at me... After school, you did a degree in Quantity Surveying at Kingston Polytechnic. Why Quantity Surveying?I have always loved how things are built and designed. I wanted to learn how to build as I toyed with the idea of being an architect. How did you get into TV?By accident!!! I went into production first and found my way. After the first time being in front of a camera, what made you want to come back?Umm, first time doing a TV show? It was great fun, I love writing and researching and performing, always loved acting, so it felt like I found my place in the world. Did you ever think that you would find yourself doing TV?I had no idea what I was going to be or do!!!! Was the glamour and tinsel of the camera everything you had expected. Or was it a lot more hard work? I lived in Hong Kong during my Channel V days, that was my first proper contract after the RIM chart show. The channel was not aired in HK, as the Chinese Channel V was. So I lived and worked in the dark for 4 years. It was great. I worked long hard hours, writing, researching, directing & hosting. When I moved out of HK, it was very weird to be recognized and that still takes some getting used to. I am a slippers and t-shirt kind of girl and find it weird to be stopped by people wanting to say hi. I guess I spent so many years travelling with Lonely Planet for Discovery too that I was still very much living and working in a nice bubble. Why did you decide to come back to Malaysia in 1995?I was back at the end of 1994, wanting to come home and start working, I missed my home. Your shot to superstardom came in 1998 when you were selected as the VJ for Channel V. This would go on for the next 5 years. Were you intimidated when you first got the gig?I don't think I was intimidated; I was excited and full of passion about getting stuck into a job I knew I would love as I loved music and everything about TV production. I was very hands on right from the start.

What was your motivating factor to try Channel V?I was called by an agent to go to a casting for a TV show, had no idea what it was and was very shocked to find out afterwards what it was and that I got it... After being in the front, you decided to give producing a try. How was that different for you?Started off producing, so naturally I wanted to have more input in what I was saying, doing, and this lead on to directing. I wrote, researched and directed most of my own shows at V including 'Asha Meets' which was my interview show. Was the move to behind the camera a natural move for you? Yes. But all of these didn't stop you as you again returned front of the screen to act? By now, you have done the trifecta. But why venture into acting? I always loved acting, have done plays, love the process......wish I could do more. How did you find acting?Exhilarating. Is it something you would do again?Always. Then came the work you did with Discovery Channel. How did that come about? How did your time working with the Discovery Channel help you grow as a person and a producer?I casted for LP six degrees while I was in Singapore filming The Weakest Link, I was soooo excited. I learned so much about how to work as a team and travel around the world and of course, exposure to the world leads to knowledge and you organically grow the more you know, the more you realize what you don't know... What do you know now that you wish you knew in college? That grades don't give you everything in life. There's more to learning by rote, so do not get so stressed about this as life is so much bigger than you think it is. Have fun and not stress about not knowing what you want to do or what you want to be. I still don't. I subscribe to the organic path of life. What is your advice to college/uni students who wish to make a foray into TV/modelling/ acting?Get involved while you are at college, uni, have a blast, follow your passion, because even if it pays like crap, you will be happy, life is too short not to be happy. Take it from me! What would you have done different, if you had the chance? Not many things, life is wasted on regrets. You have to keep moving forward. Always living in the moment.

process, established herself as a person with unwavering spirit. She's come a long way now, with TV, Radio and some acting, and she has carved her name in the halls of immortality. So when we met Asha at the launch of Capital FM last month, we knew right away who we wanted to feature in our revamped Face in the Frame column. It is just a natural fit and we couldn't ask for someone better.

  • BEAUTY AND FASHION INSPIRATION

    15CAMPUSPLUS \\ JANUARY 2012

Malaysias first and only one-stop fashion wholesale shopping mall Kenanga Wholesale City (KWC) is now open. Nestled off Jalan Hang Tuah in downtown Kuala Lumpur, KWC follows the resounding success of fashion wholesale malls in the Asian region such as Platinum Fashion Mall in Bangkok, Dongdaemun Market in Seoul, Mangga Dua Wholesale Complex in Jakarta and many fashion wholesale malls in Humen, China. With 500,000 square feet nett lettable retail space, this 22 storeyed one-stop fashion wholesale shopping mall boasts nine storeys of shopping adventure. It features more than 800 retail shops offering everything that falls within the fashion umbrella for women, men and children, including apparel, footwear, jewellery, accessories, bags as well as leather goods. In addition to that, there are several retailers specially dedicated to Islamic fashion in a bid to provide a variety of traditional and contemporary apparel for the Muslim market.

KWC is special because it demystifies the common belief that wholesale shopping often takes place in a crowded and substandard environment, said Mr Bernard Bong, Managing Director of Kenanga Wholesale City Sdn. Bhd. KWC promises supreme convenience and premium comfort for all shoppers with features such as wide walkways, high ceilings and more than 1,800 parking bays.

In addition to the fashion-dedicated floors, there is a wealth of halal and non-halal food outlets located throughout the mall. They include Old Town White Coffee, Sajian Enak, MJ Caf, Kazu Sushi Japanese Restaurant and many snack kiosks.

Each season, new trends and new fashion finds come out, especially around the holiday season. Soda, a well known fashion label housed under Voir Group, takes centre stage in introducing its revamped creative directions in both merchandising and branding with a new tagline, Inspired by the city for the city at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. Headed by the newly on board Creative Consultant, Gillian Hung, the fashion maestro in the fashion industry, the Sodas creative team aim to take the brand to a higher level where the brand will shine on the international fashion stage. Targeted at young executives aged 25 to 35 years old, who enjoy living and working in the city, Soda defines itself as fashion forward brand equipped with urban electicism and intense city mood, said Ms Gillian Hung. She added, The vibrant city lifestyle is the greatest asset to what Soda has to offer to those stylish young men and ladies. Soda Holiday 2011/12 is mixed narration of a typical New Yorker who enjoys living and loving their life as a party lover who works and plays hard at the same time. Inspired from the stunning architectural structures from the city ambience, the collections key looks are simply sleek and gorgeously basic with key pieces such as long leather dress, killer jackets, body con knitwear etc. Apart from the classic duo, black and white, the collection will also see bright colours such as hot chilli red, juicy orange, shiny luxe gold and glossy silver. All it requires is a little hair gel and some front-to-back combing. This minimalistic style also called the wet look is the new glam hairstyle trend of the season. It is an easy transition from working out or laying poolside to cocktails. This glossy and chic hairstyle combines old-world beauty with a contemporary look.

Perfect for the beach and great sun protection for the head, hair cover-ups were all the rage on the runways this season. Whether worn turban-style or more pirate-esque, these dos help make the jump from laying out to dinner easily.

This style will always look fresh and youthful yet amazingly sexy and feminine. Adding a bit of mystery by slightly covering one eye. The deep side part has a razor-clean line and can be worn with pulled back, half-up, or full down.

The centre part aligns itself with 2012s revival trends: 60s fashion and 70s fashion for spring / summer 2012. The best part about this look is it will change your whole look in exactly five seconds. This trend works best with clean straight hair (for full effect).

This style seems fashionable. Retro can be styled with classic curls, waves or fine creativity in a variety of hair colours, from the darker to the most brilliant blonde. These vintage-inspired hairstyles were seen all over the runway, but with a modern twist.

    Beauty trend of the month

Be Glamorous!Quickly coats lashes from root to tip. Mascara can be the trickiest makeup to apply. The goal, of course, is to enhance your lashes so your eyes seem bigger and brighter without evidence of loads of mascara. It is one of the most essential and versatile makeup products. In choosing a mascara, you need to pay particular attention to the size of the mascara brush; the fuller and longer your lashes, the thicker the brush you need. Choose a mascara colour according to your hair colour; brunettes should use black to bring out their eyes, while brown mascara will have a more natural effect on fair-haired women. Pay attention to the texture of the mascara itself. Mascara is just

one of many different elements that will compose your look and enhance your beauty.

  • A Big Thank YouLast month, we celebrated a milestone here at Campus Plus. We turned 5 years old. Yes, we are now half a decade old. What an amazement it was to us when the whole point of 5 years dawned on us. It wasnt apparent at first, but when it did happen, the word whoah was duly understated. And for good reasons too. What a journey its been for us, carving our own path that we walked. We must say, its been interesting.

The Starting LineOur first issue was born to Malaysian campuses in October 2006 and much like now, it was also a free issued magazine. It was a simple magazine, new to most eyes and very much in the process of finding its footing in the world as most publications in its place would. Very picture driven, and with a greater emphasis on lifestyle. But the aim was achieved - to provide the platform for the latest & happenings in and around the campus life. From college news to supermarket shelves, we

went out to find it so that you didnt have to.

It was a motivation boost despite the reluctance of some in dealing with a first issue magazine. Such was the trials of a newcomer. But we persevered.

Indeed, over time weve refined the magazine further; one at a time on what we feel can be done better. We created an entire fashion section Chic Fix, gave technology its room to breathe through 2 pages of news and reviews, retained the Movies, Music and Contest, refined the News and separated the Sports from Wellness. Were glad we took that step; you guys liked it so much, we knew we had finally struck a cord with you. Be assured, its a process we continue to do even till today and, you can be sure, is something we will continue to do when it comes to giving quality reading material.

Yes, 5 years can teach you a lot. Were a bit more aware of the subtle differences in what you guys want, but just as much, more experienced in giving you the best of whats out there.

Backed with that wisdom, we went out and covered the news. We interviewed and featured the up and coming. We featured Al Gore on Global Warming just a few

months after we launched. Weve spoken to Malaysian dancer January Low, brought Zee Avi front and center, Reshmonu, Sasi the Don, and cornered

other names when we interviewed them.

    We didnt stop there.

We figured that as students who are about to venture into the real world, it would be good to get a heads up on job youre heading for. And thus Face in the Frame was born where we gave people with the unspoken jobs some

airtime. For instance, look at this months issue where Asha Gill gives her view on her journey.

Look for this section in our future issues with different people over a variety of different careers.

Weve come quite a distance in 5 years. In total, were now 60 issues old (61 if you consider this one).

Walking the unbeaten path has not been easy as weve had our own challenges to deal with. But we are glad to say we had help from good quarters that has become invaluable. Peoplefor whom we are, in fact, grateful to have a friendship.

We have all our business partners who have trekked this journey with us. Everyone, in every way who had confidence in us. To name a few is TOHTONKU, YEOS, TM, KFC, Mandom, Jack & Jill, BIC, HTC and many more whom we are proud to call our friends.

A big thank you we also have to say to all the Universities and Colleges who have been with us, inspiring us to keep going, from the start. We at Campus Plus are proud to see some of our friends, like Taylors University, HELP University, Sunway University, UCSI, UTAR, IMU, LimKokWing University, Monash University and Inti International University grow from a college to University College to now a full fledge University. To add to this, the colleges that achieved University College status UCTI, KBU, KDU, Binary University College, and many more names in both categories than we can print. Yes, it is things like this inspire us, and puts a smile on the faces of everyone behind the magazine when people we consider friends get bigger and better. To all institutions, your ac-knowledgement of Campus Plus is more than we can ask for.

And finally, the one, the only, a giant billboard sized gratitude to you, our Reader.

It is all of you varsity students for whom this magazine was created. To give you in and out that make your tertiary life just that much better. It is our mission to bring you the freshest, best and entertaining magazine that speaks to your interest. Our aim is that our magazine continues to inform and educate on the latest and we hope, thus far, we have given you just that.

In the end..Weve come a long way in these many years. By some standards, 5 years is a good long time. But for us, we are only just beginning. (Taking over the world can be big thing you see LOL) Indeed, as this issue represents, change is coming. We have a few things in the pipeline that we will look to unveil this year. Stuff that will catapult us to a new level. But you can rest assured, our aim is and always will be, to bring you the latest in and around the campus.

Thank You everyone for a good 5 years. Heres to more years together!

THANK YOU FORAMAZING YEARS & HAPPY NEW YEAR5
