www.crestmontptc.org www.rcsdk8.org I hope that you all enjoyed a restful holiday break. We are beginning a new year
and it is a great time to set new goals for your child’s education. Reading for 30 minutes each day is very important. Many times students will expe-rience a slide backwards due to long periods of time when they do not read. We are really focusing on developing life-long readers at Crestmont. Please make sure that your child is reading, ask them what they just read, what is the setting like in the story, etc. Buddy reading is fun and this is where you can read a page and your child can read a page thus you share the book. I am amazed at the growth that the students who read often have experienced this year. We are having bat-tles between classes at Crestmont and the students are having so much fun being competitive.

Attendance ~ We are having an attendance improvement campaign. Can
you please help us? If your child is not throwing up or does not have a fever
please send them to school. We see most often the children are fine once they
arrive at school and see their friends. If your child goes to the doctor or dentist
please send them back with a note. This saves our school money as we are
able to get the funds from the state since it is accompanied with a note. We want
you to know that we truly care about your child and lately we have had a spike in
tardies and absences. We need the funds that the state provides to educate your

Arriving on time ~ The first five minutes of class are really important as that is when the morning bell work begins. The schedule is reviewed for the day and the morning carpet time begins for younger students. When the students arrive late send them to class first to see if their teacher has taken attendance already. We don’t want students to miss out on important reminders, etc by waiting in line for a late slip. Thank you for getting them to class on time as the minutes matter as we teach bell to bell at
Special thanks to our Oakmont Viking International Baccalaureate students for their valuable tutoring, copying and support!

Vision screening ‐ January 19th
Being able to see well in the classroom is crucial for learning. This is why the State of Califor‐nia mandates vision screening upon school entry and then at specific grade levels in public schools. As of January 2015, the mandated vision screening years will be changing to kinder‐garten (and TK), 2nd, 5th, and 8th grades. An optometrist will be visiting all Roseville City school sites in January and February to perform these vision screenings. If your child does not pass the screening, a referral will be sent home directing you to visit an eye doctor for a full exam. Please take the referral form with you for the doctor to complete and return the complet‐ed form to the school following the exam. If you need assistance with obtaining the exam due to financial hardship or would like a referral to a local optometrist, please contact your school nurse. If you have vision concerns for your child and he/she is not in one of the mandated grade levels, please contact your child’s teacher, so they can send home a District Health Screen‐ing form for your child to be screened by the school nurse.
State Testing ~
Believe it or not the state testing will begin in March for some of our students. It is im-portant that you plan your family trips around the school calendar as Independent Study does not make up for the quality instruction that our amazing teachers deliver each day. We value your children so much and we miss them when they are not at school.
Volunteers
We want you to be a part of the school. Please volunteer with us an hour a
week. You can volunteer to help Mrs Farmer, the front office staff, the teach-ers, PTC. You are a valuable resource
to us and your talent is needed.
The parking lot is challenging. Please leave home 15 minutes earlier than usual if it is raining. Recommended pick up time is between 3:05—3:15, if you ar-rive after 3:15 you will need to park and come into the office to sign your student out. Also, please follow traffic laws when enter and exiting the parking lot. We hear of several drivers crossing over lanes and driving in the wrong direction. This can be extremely dangerous for other cars and pedestrians.

2016/2017 School Year ~ January Edition
Crestmont Families,
The PTC hopes you enjoyed the Winter Break with your family.
I would like to thank Connie Bohnenstiehl and the volunteers
that helped her make the Holiday Auction a success! Thank you
to the families that donated towards their class baskets they
looked wonderful. Along with our silent auction and raffle our
first Pancake Breakfast was a lot of fun and we look forward to
making it an annual event.
Remember all the extra events that happen for Crestmont is due to
wonderful parent volunteers like you. We welcome help in many
ways. If you would like to help with the upcoming Father
Daughter Dance, Mother Son Sports Night, or Jog-A-Thon I
encourage you to email [email protected] and let us
know how you would like to be more involved.
Thank you for your continuing
support & Happy New Year
