OLYMPIA

Founded in 1965 with an emphasis on family values, the Mystic Krewe of Olym-pia is a secret organization that parades in Covington, Louisiana. It is also the oldest club in St. Tammany to present both a ball and parade. The philanthropic arm of the organization, the MKO Foundation, lends support for our community’s fi rst responders (the Covington Police and Fire Departments) and other local non-profi ts in the Covington area. Celebrating its 55th anniversary, the Mystic Krewe of Olympia parades in Coving-ton with 300 members on 21 fl oats from Mardi Gras Decorators on the north

shore. This year’s theme is OH WHAT IT MEANS TO MISS NEW ORLEANS. Float titles include We Jammin’, Party Hardy, and Pour Some Sugar On It. The Olympia procession traditionally features more than 50 units. Members will toss many lighted, Olympia-crested items, including lightning bolts. The offi cers will throw special cloi-sonné doubloons. Olympia honors local military wounded warriors at the ball and also as guests on fl oats. The Budweiser Clydesdales will make a special appearance in the parade. The identity of King Zeus LV remains secret, but the name of the queen and her court will be announced at the Olympia ball on February 1, 2020, in Mandeville’s Castine Center.

The Krewe of Titans is in its ninth year of parading. The mighty Titans were a powerful race that ruled the world before the Olympians. The club was established by a group of men desirous of riding in a night parade through the streets of Slidell. Since 2016 Titans has rolled as a co-ed club. www.krewoftitans.com

The Krewe of Titans rolls in Slidell on Saturday, February 15, at 6:30 P.M. with a special anniversary 16-fl oat procession entitled A PERFECT 10. Past parade

themes are highlighted on fl oats representing Where Yat Nawlins (2018), Dancing in the Streets (2015) and Titans Celebrates the Holidays (2013). PFJ Float Builders promises six of the largest superfl oats ever seen on the N orthshore. Reigning as Titans royalty are King Ralph Morel III and Queen Dr. Jennifer Hinrichsen Maraia. Riding as guest grand marshals are Deuce McAllister and Kristian Garic. The club’s 350 men and women will throw anniversary footballs, handstrung medallion beads, LED lighted fl eur de lis wands, and cloisonné doubloons. Titan’s Battle of the Bands will award $6,000 in prize money. The annual ball is set for January 18, 2020, at the Slidell Audi-torium.
