Introduction to Distance Learning
Matthew J. MoloneyPrincipal
COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update• School closed through at least March 29th
• This is a fluid situation and I will continue to send communication as updates are available
• Be sure to be checking your email regularly
• Updates are will also be posted on our website and Facebook page.
Considerations for Distance Learning
• Closing a physical school site and disrupting the lives of students and their families is not ideal.
• Providing distance learning opportunities allows for continuity of instruction and reduces the impact of an extended school closure on student achievement
• We are equipped for this and will be with you every step of the way to assist as needed.
Learning Management System (LMS)• An LMS is a digital platform for posting content, instruction,
assignments, and assessments.
• We will be utilizing Google Classroom for Grades K-8
Grades 5-8• 1:1 iPad Program• 5th Graders will be able to take their iPad
home during closure• Students are already very familiar with
Google Classroom, which will allow fora smooth transition
• Parents, please monitor students while usingdigital resources/devices
Kindergarten – Grade 4• We do not have the inventory to issue device to students in
Grades K – 4 • Older siblings can certainly share their device with their younger sibling• If there is no device available at home, please contact Mr. Majewski –
• Distance learning in these grades is less device dependent than the older grades, although still needed
• Parents, please monitor students while using digital resources/devices
Expectations• Complete each assignment or activity to the best of the student’s
ability
• Ask questions. Teachers are available via email at their @hfcatholicschool.com email
• While teachers will be keeping virtual office hours, this is not the time for conferences. If you require a conference, please schedule one when regular classes resume
Expectations (continued)• Watch for and meet deadlines. Submit assignments to teachers
according to their instructions provided. Some student work may be turned in remotely, while others will be turned in once we return to school.
• Maintain a reasonable pace of work and do not wait until the last minute to reach out for support to complete assignments.
• Appropriate use of school technology is crucial. Parents, please monitor students use of digital resources/equipment.
Tips for Students & Parents• Establish a daily routine for learning• Identify a comfortable, quite space for work to be done
effectively and successfully

Tips for Students & Parents (continued)• Remember our Wildcat PRIDE values to help you make good

• Communicate with your teachers regularly• Communicate and support your friends and classmates
Please have patience …• With teachers presenting lesson in a new way
