Close contacts are determined through contact tracing. Please allow at least 24 hours for contact tracing to be completed and notifications to occur. If your student is deemed a close contact you will be notified and provided specific quarantine information.
A close contact is if you:• Were within 6 feet of an infected
person for at least 15 minutes in a24 hour period, regardless ofwearing a mask or not.
• Had multiple brief exposuresadding up to 15 minutes, especiallyif indoors, and even if you wore facecoverings or masks.
• Had unprotected direct contact withan infected person's sneeze, saliva,or cough.
Your child had close contact with someone with COVID-19

If your student is a close contact to a positive individual and NOT experiencing symptoms there are 3 possible quarantine options. The health staff will help guide you through the appropriate one for your
child's situation.

Your child will need to quarantine if:
• They live in a household where they cannot avoid close contact with a personwho has COVID-19
• They do not have a separate bedroom to isolate the person who hasCOVID-19
• They live in close quarters where they are unable to keep a physical distanceof 6 feet from the person who has COVID-19.
Guidance for Quarantining if Your Child is Unable to Avoid a COVID-19 Positive Person in their Household
If your child lives with someone who has COVID-19 and they cannot avoidinteracting with them, they should avoid contact with people outside the home.
Your student can return to school after completing a 10-day quarantine, which begins after the person in the home with COVID-19 ends their isolation.
Note: People with COVID-19 can end home isolation after 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared or since testing positive, at least 24 hours fever-free without medication, AND improved symptoms.
For Example
Alex's mom Robin testedpositive on January 1st
(day zero). Robin's isolation will end on January 11th.
Alex should begin his 10-day quarantine on January 12th. Alex's quarantine ends on January 21stand he can return to school on January 22nd.
Your child should quarantine for at least 10 days after the COVID-19 positive person in
your household completes their 10 days of isolation.
Close Contact
Why it's important to wait...The individual with COVID-19 can spread it to others from 2-days before symptoms start to 10 days after. This is known as the infectious period. Each day your child has contact with an infected person there is a chance they could become infected. Once the risk of spreading the infection has passed (the isolation period is over) additional time (quarantine period) is needed to see if your child develops symptoms this is known as the incubation period.

My child was POSITIVE for COVID-19, when is their isolation complete?Your child can return to school when:
• 10 days since their symptoms first appeared ortest date and
• 24 hours fever-free without medicationand
• Symptoms have improved
Day zero (0) is their first day of symptoms or the day your child was tested.
On day 11 your child can return to school as long as they are fever-free for 24 hours without medication and symptoms have improved.
Your child does NOT need a negative test to return to school once they have completed their isolation.
Your student WILL need a Back to Class PASS so please go to the office upon returning.
When is my Child's ISOLATION over?
If my child does not have any symptoms, do they need to complete isolation?Yes! Some people who test positive for COVID-19 never develop any symptoms, but it is still possible to spread the virus to others. Keep your child home and stay away from others until 10 days have passed since their positive test.
My child is fully vaccinated, do they need to complete isolation?Yes! Vaccines are not 100% effective at preventing COVID-19. There will be a small percentage of fully vaccinated people who either develop symptoms due to COVID-19 or test positive but never have symptoms.
POSITIVE

I still have Questions....FAQs
When should I keep my child home from school?1. If your child is experiencing one or more COVID-19 like
symptoms2. If your child is awaiting COVID-19 test results3. If anyone in your household has tested POSITIVE for
COVID-19 test results
What happens if there is a positive case in my child's classroom?Once the school is notified that an individual has tested positive our health team completes a thorough contact tracing which includes identifying close contacts. This process may take up to 24 hours from the time of notification. You will receive an email with important information.
How will I be notified if my child is a CLOSE CONTACT?Contact tracing is completed once the health office is notified of a lab-confirmed positive case. This process may take at least 24 hours. If your child is deemed a close contact you will receive notification providing specific information on your child's quarantine period. All HIPAA guidelines are followed to protect your child's privacy.
If one of my children is on a quarantine due to a close contact exposure, do my other children need to quarantine? No, if your child is a deemed a close contact and placed on a quarantine your other children do NOT need to stay home from school. However, if your child on a quarantine develops symptoms please contact the health office for further guidance.
Once my child is cleared to return to school what happens?Your child will need to go to the office to have their temperature taken. They will then be given a Back to Class Pass.
Does the school offer COVID-19 testing for my child?Self-administered take home COVID-19 tests are available from your health office. Registration and activation codes are located inside the box along with direction on how to complete your self-administered test. Once completed drop the kit sealed as directed at a FedEx location. Your test will need to be dropped off the same day the test is completed.

Can I get reinfected with COVID-19?Yes, although it’s very unlikely during the first 90 days after the initial infection. If your child develops symptoms of COVID-19 or are exposed to someone with COVID-19, our health team will help guide you through what's next. It’s still important to wear a mask and follow other prevention guidance, like hand washing, after having COVID-19.
When would my child's classroom or school close due to positive COVID-19 cases?California Department of Public Health requirements are designed to keep schools open. An outbreak is considered 3 or more linked COVID-19 positive cases within a department or classroom. 20 cases contracted in a 30 day period may trigger a school closure based on the findings from the contact tracing and CDPH determination.
Where does the guidance for schools come from?o California Department of Public Health (CDPH)o Centers for Disease Control and Preventiono Cal-OSHA
