Susquehanna University 514 University Avenue Selinsgrove, PA 17870 April 7, 2002 Andrea Smelser, Recruiter Global Brand Marketing, Inc. 12 E. Figueroa Street Santa Barbara, CA 93101 Dear Ms. Smelser: Please accept this letter as my application for the position of Marketing Assistant at GBMI. I learned of this position through newspress.com and I am relocating to the Santa Barbara area. When looking at GBMI, I was impressed with their strategic worldwide growth in the footwear industry over the past few years. It is indeed a unique and intriguing success story, and I would undoubtedly contribute to this winning team. This position calls for a detail-oriented, computer literate person with solid communication skills, and I posses all of these talents. As a student advisor, assisting in scheduling sophomores’ classes, I have further developed my organizational skills. Being involved in collegiate athletics and multiple campus organizations has vastly strengthened my time management skills. I was also fortunate to be a part of IBM’s team in Burlington, Vermont for two summers. As an intern with their marketing team, I was able to learn and use a variety of computer and web applications within the wireless product-marketing department. My experiences as a Theatre Arts minor here at Susquehanna, both on stage and in the classroom, have greatly improved my skills in self-expression and communication, while my solid GPA illustrates my writing proficiency. I am well prepared for the challenges of a position at GBMI and I look forward with excitement to the growth and opportunities that await me upon graduation. Thank you for taking the time to consider my application. Please refer to my resume for the full extent of my career history and educational experience. I welcome the opportunity to discuss with you in person my qualifications for the position at GBMI. I can be contacted at (570) 374-6029 or by e-mail at [email protected] . I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, (written signature) Matthew W. Lanning
