Meet our 2019 Captains-

We are very proud of our new student leadership team. Our new Captains, Vice Captain and House captains, who were officially inducted into their roles at our first school assembly last week, will play an important role in our school community as role models for our student body. This week classes will be voting for SRC representatives for 2019. A Student Representative Council (SRC) is a group of students elected by their peers to represent all students in the school. The SRC will be coordinated by Miss Campbell and will meet twice a term to organise school events, fundraisers and discuss current issues within the school. Elected SRC members will receive their badges at the next whole school assembly, Wednesday, February 20th at 2.30pm.

Canteen- Our school canteen is up and running for 2019 with a delicious new menu full of healthy, appetising lunch and recess selections. Canteen operates on Wednesday and Friday each week at both recess and lunch. Volunteering in the canteen is a great way to meet other parents and be involved in the school. If you would like to volunteer in the canteen (training provided), please contact the school office for further information. A canteen menu has been sent home today for each family.

Small Schools Swimming Carnival- Congratulations and good luck to those students who qualified to participate in the Small Schools Swimming Carnival at the Grafton Olympic Pool this Friday 15/2/19. Students will be competing against peers from 13 small schools across the Clarence Valley. Students with qualifying times this Friday will progress to the Clarence District Carnival next Thursday 21/2/19. Please return permission notes and money to school by this Wednesday. School Photos- 2019 school photos will be taken on Wednesday 20th February. Individual student envelopes have been issued. Envelopes for sibling photos are available at the school office. Envelopes can be returned on the day, or held in the office before the day. Each child returns their own envelope, even if payment is included in a siblings envelope. If paying in cash, please include the correct amount inside the envelope, as change will not be issued. Do not place envelopes inside other envelopes as they are not opened on the day. Please note the timing of photography on the day cannot be guaranteed. Please follow the order and payment instructions on the envelopes and contact the school office if you have any questions. School Fees- An annual general voluntary contribution fee of $50 is levied for each child, with a reduced fee for siblings. This money is used to purchase all resources needed for each student and subsidise or cover additional school activities and excursions. Coutts Crossing Public School has always strived to minimise any cost of education for students. The payment of school fees will allow the school to continue to offer special opportunities to students that would otherwise not be accessible or affordable. A statement of account will be issued to each family this week. We understand that at the start of the year other expenses have been a priority, such as uniforms and school photos, so we ask that school fees be paid by the end of Term 1. Fees can be paid online via our website, or by cash or cheque at the school office. 2019 Information Handbook- The 2019 Handbook is available on the school website under About our school - Information Handbook. It was also shared on our Facebook page during the school holidays. If you are unable to print or access the document at home, hard copies are available on request at the school office.

Classroom News- Kindergarten have settled very quickly into school this year. I am so proud of the way they have embraced this brand-new journey in their lives. Thank you also to their families who have encouraged and supported their transition into big school. I know that we are going to have a very exciting year together.

Does this sound like your conversation with your child after school each day? Parent: What did you do at school today? Child: Aw… nothing. Well we clearly know that they didn’t do nothing, so here are a few questions that you could pose to your child that may spark a conversation.

What was the best part of your day today? Who did you play with at recess/lunch today? When were you happiest today? What is one thing that you learned today? What was the funniest thing that happened today? How did you help someone today?

I hope this helps. More to come next term.

Enrolment information- Please remember to let the school know if any of your contact details change. Particularly for our Kindy students, we have some enrolments still needing to complete their records. For each student we need: Birth certificate Immunisation History Statement Medical information eg asthma plan Address confirmation (if no older siblings) If you’re unsure if you have records outstanding, please contact the school office. Term 1 Cool Cards- As part of our continued focus on student wellbeing at school, our Cool Card focus this term is ‘Respect’. Students will be receiving positive feedback and awarded Cool Cards for demonstrating respectful behaviour. The Cool Card box has been filling up, ready for the first draw at the next assembly. Two students will be drawn out who then pick a treat from the prize box.
