We will also be planning for our trip

to the Brunton for the panto

on Saturday 13th December

Reservations will be taken from the

end of October –  to book please call

 Jennifer McDougall on 0131 654 2370

or let her know at Youth Club

All new members are welcome so

come along and bring a friend!

thing but we enjoyed ourselves.

Craft and baking has also been a hit

with the youngsters and we lookforward to our Halloween Party

on Wednesday 29th October - come

dressed to scare!!

The 2014 Cousland PétanqueTournament ended in great style on

the 30th at the Village Day. Three

teams reached the final of this knock-

out competition.

1. Brian Ellis and George Ramage

2. Norrie Brown and Stewart Buchan

3. Steven and Helen Lapinskie

It was a thrilling end to the

tournament which has proved to be

very popular. The winning team was

Brian Ellis and George Ramage who

beat the other two teams with the

following scores

13 to 8 points and 13 to 4 points.

The runners-up were Steven and

Helen. All teams were given a prize

but Brian and George won the brand

new Cousland Petanque Tournament

shield. A very special mention has to

go to George Ramage who was ‘man

-of’-the-match’ because he played

the best games of pétanque on the

day –  very well done George andmuch deserved.

Plans for the 2015 Cousland

Pétanque Tournament have now

begun and we will be inviting

people to put their names forward in

the not too distant future. We have

had requests for a Cousland

Pétanque Tournament league and

we will be considering this very

seriously so that people can play on

more than one occasion.

 Additionally, and very importantly,

we have also been awarded £700 by

the Big Lottery Fund to purchase

equipment so that our tournament

can be played by anyone who

wishes. In order to secure this

award the CVHA has to raise the

sum of £100 and we will be

fundraising at the November village

café.

The next meeting to take this forward is on 28th

October. If anyone has any issues they want to beincluded for this area, please come along and join thesmall group working with Derek Welsh fromMidlothian Council on this.

At present only Alison Vikis and Kathleen Donald have beenattending from Cousland, but it is important that all local needsand aspirations are included in this plan. So please let us know what they are or come along yourself.

The massive improvements to the

the hard work and determination of

many village volunteers - Trust

members, Plotters, grass-cutters,

“The Smiddy has never looked better!”

So said our blacksmith, who has

worked there for the last 20 years.

A HUGE THANKS to every one of

our volunteers for their

contributions of time, knowledge

and enthusiasm –  not to mention

catering skills - which helped us

to raise £320.00 for the Smiddy

Doors Open Day.

We really do have a special band

of volunteers who are willing to

turn their hands to virtually anything

asked, and we’re very grateful for

the effort put in, remaining cheerful

in the face of extremely depleted

visitor numbers was tricky, but we

still managed to have a good day and

the quality and interest of the visitors

who did come was good to

experience. Practically everyone

Poppy Scotland bike raceOn Sunday 21st September the village

became part of the route for the inaugural

Poppy Scotland Sportive Cycle Challenge.

160 riders rode on 2 routes with via

Cousland being an extra stage for the elite

riders group. Tackling Hadfast Road East to

West when nearly at the end of 70k was a

tough ask! Organisers hope to make this an

annual fundraising event for a very

worthwhile cause and Cousland was happy

to be part of it.
