PREREQUISITES: It is the student’s responsibility to satisfy course prerequisites. Students not meeting course prerequisites will not be allowed to take the certification testing and will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance only. Prerequisites must be proven in the form of a certificate from an agency accredited by either ProBoard or IFSAC.
EQUAL OPPORTUNITY: It is the policy of the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education, including all Postsecondary institutions under the control of the State Board of Education, that no person in Alabama shall, on the grounds of race, color, disability, sex, religion, creed, national origin or age be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program, activity, or employment.
ACADEMIC MISCONDUCT: Academic misconduct or dishonesty such as cheating and plagiarism is not permitted in class. Suspected cases of academic misconduct will be reported to the Executive Director. Conduct detrimental to the fire service on or off campus will not be tolerated. We will investigate any complaints, and if the complaint is valid the student will be dismissed and his/her agency will be notified.
ATTENDANCE POLICY: Students are expected to attend all classes. Failure to appear in class for a scheduled activity will be considered an absence, unless prior permission is received from the instructor. For any absence to be excused, it must be accompanied by written description of extenuating circumstances. For a certification course, students must attend all classes to obtain certification.
TARDINESS: Students must adhere to class schedules. Students are required to be punctual for all classes and class activities. Classes will begin promptly at the scheduled time unless specific instructions to the contrary are given.
SAFETY: Safety of the students is a top priority to the Alabama Fire College. Students must adhere to safety regulations while attending a class at the Fire College. Safety instructions are posted in every classroom, as well as escape routes and tornado actions.
COLLEGE CREDIT: College credit is available through Shelton State Community College. In addition to filling out a Shelton State Application for Admission and a credit/non-credit declaration form, students must also provide Shelton State Community College with official transcripts from any other college the student has attended. If the student has no other college credit, the student must provide Shelton State Community College with official high school transcripts or an official copy of their GED. The student has one semester to provide all the necessary transcripts; failure to do so will result in the loss of college credit for the current course, as well as any future courses, taken at the Fire College. Only after all of the official transcripts have been received and the student file is complete will Shelton State begin to issue college credit for future courses taken at the Fire College. College credit will not be issued retroactively.
PAYMENT: Payment is due at the time of registration. We accept cash, check, credit cards, and purchase orders.
COURSE WITHDRAWAL/REFUND POLICY: Students who register for courses and fail to attend will be charged the full registration fee. To receive a full refund, all cancellations or withdrawals must be received in writing at least two weeks prior to the beginning of class. Students will receive full refunds for courses cancelled by the Alabama Fire College.
SPECIAL NOTE: Recruit Schools have a separate withdrawal and refund policy. Please see the application and information packet for specific recruit school policies.
