This course is designed to give an introductory overview of the missionary enterprise. The emphasis is on equipping the student in mission leadership by developing perspectives that inspire and motivate involvement in missions. The perspective are biblical, historical, cultural and strategic.

This course provides a comprehensive survey of the nature of Christian mission internationally. It covers the biblical foundations of mission, the historical expansion of the Church, missionary cultural anthropology and strategic planning for contemporary mission. Students should be inspired by the biblical examples and historical figures, as well as be equipped to adjust to cultures and plan strategically.

ABOUT THE LECTURERS

DR. JAY TAYLOR, D.Min

Following a decade of associate pastoral ministry in major USA Assemblies of God churches, Jay began working with emerging leaders in the educational

setting. He spent several years in student development and teaching at Evangel University and then taught for two years at ATC. For the past ten years Jay has served at the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield, Missouri USA, assisting the community in student life and spiritual formation. He has a passion for encouraging and equipping students to fulfil their God-given calling for ministry.

DR. MARGARET SEAWARD

Margaret Seaward is a dynamic teacher of the Word and has been a missionary instructor in Biblical Studies for more than 30 years. She is the wife of Rev. Dr.

Fred Seaward, founder and former senior pastor of Elim Church. They came to Singapore in the 1950s as missionaries from the United States under the Assemblies of God. Together they have planted churches in Singapore and have been actively involved in missions.

ABOUT THE LECTURERS

DR. TERESA CHAI, Ph.D

Teresa graduated with a Ph. D. in Intercultural Studies from the School of World Mission at Fuller Theological Seminary in 2003. She was the President

of Alpha Omega International College, Malaysia, a multi-denominational college 2003-2013. Presently she is a faculty at Asia Theological Seminary filling the John Bueno Chair of Intercultural Studies.

Teresa was a missionary to Bangladesh for eight years during which time developed a literacy program using Audio-Scriptures for the Bible Society there. She also headed a development project among Bangladeshi youth working in a Danish Mission called a “School For Life” teaching them life skills as well as vocational training in computers and English. All these programs are open for people from Muslims, Hindu, Tribal, as well as Christian Religions.

She has published articles in the National Evangelical Churches Fellowship’s Watchmen series as well as in Kairos Magazine.

PETER SOH , D.Ed. (Candidate)

Peter Soh served in ATC (ATCEM) as a full-time lecturer from 2002 to 2005 before taking up the appointment as the dean of studies with Assemblies of God Bible

College, Singapore (2006 – 2013). He has been a part of Victory Family Centre (VFC) since 1984 and was involved in ministry as Divisional Overseer (1990 – 1997, full-time) and Regional Minister for Teaching (1997 – 2005).

Peter graduated from Bible Institute of Singapore (Assemblies of Bible College) in 1994 with a Bachelor of Theology. He continued with his education with Grand Rapids Baptist Seminary (Singapore Extension) and earned a Master of Religious Education (MRE) in 1999 with honours. He is currently in a Doctor of Education Degree Programme (Ed.D) with Malaysia Baptist Theological Seminary. He is an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God of Singapore.

ABOUT THE LECTURERS

JEFFERY BECK, D. Min. (Candidate)

Jeffrey Beck has been 30 years in full-time ministry as a student, pastor, teacher, missionary and church planter. He is “called” to the full-time ministry at age 17.

He received his B.A. in Pastoral Ministries at Southeastern University and MDiv. in the School of Theology at Fuller Theological Seminary. Jeffrey taught at ATCEM as a full-time resident faculty for a few years and also became the Regional Overseer in VFC for a while. Since then, he served as a missionary to Brazil for 14 years and has church planted in São Paulo, Brazil (1999-2007), and also Belo Horizonte, Brazil (2008-2013). Currently he is a Doctoral Candidate at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary with a DMIn. in Cross-Cultural Studies and Missions. Jeffrey is married to Lucilla Yeo (Singaporean) for 16 wonderful years. They have two lovely children Brandon (14 yrs) and Ashley (10 yrs).

ABOUT THE LECTURERS

RICHARD ONG, M.T.S. , M.Soc.Sc, Counselling

Richard Ong has been a part of Victory Family Centre since 1979, for almost 33 years. An ardent believer and lover

of God’s Word who embraced 2 Tim. 2:15 and Eph. 4:12-14 strongly, pursued his theological studies with ATC and graduated with a Bachelor in Theology and a Masters in Theological Studies. Besides teaching regularly in the Life in the Word classes and School for Christian Growth program in VFC, he is also an adjunct lecturer with ATC and AGBC. Currently, he is serving as an Area Minister and Regional Minister for Ministry Co-ordination in Region 3, an elder in the Council of Elders and a committee member of Hope Community Services Centre.

Richard’s fervent passion to help others in needs compels him to complete his Masters of Social Science (Counseling) with the University of South Australia. For the past 16 over years, he has been actively involved in counseling works, both in church and counseling centers, with youths, young couples, and families from all socio-economic status. Besides counseling, Richard also teaches counseling courses in various training schools. In addition, he conducts family, marriage, and parenting enrichment workshops and seminars.

Furthermore, Richard is also an authorized T-JTA instructor and member of various professional organizations, viz. American Counseling Association, American Association of Christian Counselors, AACC Marriage & Family Network, Society for Christian Psychology, Action Group for Mental Illness, Association for Psychiatric Rehabilitation, etcetera.

JOSEPH MOHAN SACHARIAH, LLB (Hons), MML

Joseph Mohan Sachariah was called to full time ministry in 1997 from a background of law and teaching. He has been part

of Victory Family Center for 30 years. Over the years, he has served in roles such as Youth Minister, Worship Minister, Regional Pastor, Net Pastor, and General Overseer in VFC. He serves on the boards of ATC and Hope Community Services. Together with Church planting teams, Joseph has pioneered churches in North Delhi, India and Suva, Fiji. He has a passion to communicate Christ through preaching, teaching and the creative arts. He headed VFC Evangelistic Outreach committees such as “It is Finished” in 1997 and “Good News Singapore” in 2009.

He and his wife, Wee Eng Sachariah have 2 lovely daughters, Angelle and Shai-Ann.
